DescriptionThe whole story▼
Supermoto riders brake in a style of their own. On a 690 SMC R the front brake is often worked with a single finger while the other three hold the grip and the throttle, because the bike is light, the brake is strong and the rider needs a firm hold on the bar to steer through tight corners. The EDB012 from Accossato is listed for the 690 SMC and SMC R from 2008 to 2021, and its adjustable reach lets one finger find the blade exactly where it expects it.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato began in 1969 in Moncalieri, near Turin, as a builder of competition motorcycles. The EDB012 is shaped from aluminium by a CNC machine and then anodised, with a black hub for the pivot and adjuster and a blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. There is no joint between hub and tip. On a supermoto that is braked hard and flicked from side to side through every bend, a rigid lever keeps its position relative to the master cylinder however much the bike moves beneath you, and a single finger finds it in the same place every time on the 690 SMC R.
One Finger Brakes, Three Steer
One-finger braking comes from motocross and supermoto, where the rider needs a firm hold on the bar to steer, absorb bumps and work the throttle while braking. The index finger does the braking; the other three stay wrapped around the grip. It only works if the lever is where that finger lands naturally, and on a 690 SMC R the right spot is often slightly closer to the grip than the stock setting, so the finger hooks over the blade with the knuckle a little bent. Blade length matters too. The short blade is made for this style: it ends where the ring and little fingers begin, so they cannot be trapped between blade and grip at full pull. The standard blade leaves room for two fingers, which some riders prefer on the road. On a kart track, where the SMC R is braked hard several times a lap, a well-placed lever also reduces fatigue in the forearm, and the throttle hand stays relaxed enough to feel what the rear tyre is doing as you turn in.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's fitment list names two versions for the EDB012: the 690 SMC, from 2008 to 2013 and from 2014 to 2021, and the 690 SMC R, from 2012 to 2013 and from 2014 to 2021, so the listing spans 2008 to 2021 as a whole. The lever sits on the factory master cylinder. For the clutch, Accossato offers the ESA090, listed for the SMC R from 2013 to 2023.
