DescriptionThe whole story▼
The 690 Duke continues a line of single-cylinder KTM Dukes that goes back to the 1990s: one big cylinder, a light chassis, a wide handlebar and a short, agile feel. Light bikes stop quickly, and they also throw their weight forward quickly when you brake, so on the 690 Duke the way the front brake is applied decides how settled the whole bike stays. The EDB012 from Accossato, listed for 2012 to 2019, replaces the stock brake lever with a machined one whose reach you can adjust.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the KTM 690 Duke, 2012 to 2019
- Replaces the stock lever on the original master cylinder
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Standard blade approx. 138 mm, available in all seven colours
- Short blades in five colours, long blades in four
- Machined from aluminium and anodised, hub in black
- Rigid lever with no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Its life begins on a CNC mill, which carves the profile of the EDB012, its pivot bore and the seat for the reach adjuster out of aluminium in one controlled process. Anodising then gives the hub its black finish and the blade its colour. A lever on a single-cylinder bike has to put up with the engine's pulses through the handlebar as well as with the load from your fingers, and a fixed blade with no joint in it has nothing that could start to rattle or work loose. What you set on the 690 Duke is what you find at the lever, ride after ride.
Keeping the Rear Wheel on the Road
Braking moves weight from the rear wheel to the front. On a heavy tourer the transfer is slow and gentle; on a light, short bike such as the 690 Duke it happens in an instant, and a sudden grab at the lever can unload the rear tyre so far that it skips, steps sideways or, in extreme cases, lifts off the ground. None of that is needed to stop quickly. The front tyre can take a great deal of braking force, but it accepts it more willingly when the load arrives in stages: a brief, light first pressure that lets the fork compress and pushes the tyre into the tarmac, then a firm, steady increase. Grip the tank with your knees so your arms do not have to hold your body back, and keep your eyes up. A lever at the right reach helps because that first pressure can begin without your fingers having to find the blade. Riders who brake with two fingers will like the short blade on the 690 Duke; if you use the whole hand, stay with the standard length.
Fitment and Compatibility
Two entries in Accossato's catalogue, 2012 to 2013 and 2013 to 2019, together cover every 690 Duke model year from 2012 to 2019. The EDB012 fits the bike's own master cylinder, and the rest of the brake system is not affected.
Road Approval
The EDB012 has no documented German ABE. Our listing is therefore for closed-course use.
