DescriptionThe whole story▼
When the 1190 Adventure arrived in 2013, it brought KTM's travel enduro into the electronic age: a ride-by-wire throttle, selectable riding modes, traction control and ABS as standard. It is tempting to think that so much electronics leaves little for the rider to do at the brake lever, yet the opposite is true. The Accossato EDD001 replaces the front brake lever of the 1190 Adventure, listed from 2013 to 2016, with a CNC-machined aluminium lever that has an adjustable reach and comes in three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the KTM 1190 Adventure, 2013 to 2016
- Fits the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance between blade and grip
- Long blade for whole-hand braking in blue, gold, green or orange
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm, short blade for two fingers
- Anodised aluminium, black hub, seven blade colours
- Fixed one-piece lever, no hinge
Construction and Material Quality
The EDD001 is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodised in two tones: a black hub, which holds the pivot and the reach adjuster, and a blade in the colour you order. The colour sits within a hard oxide layer that forms part of the metal. Between hub and tip there is no folding joint, so the pressure you apply goes straight through the lever to the master cylinder. Accossato itself is based today in Villastellone, near Turin, where its plant combines CNC machining with forging presses.
What the ABS Leaves to You
An anti-lock system watches for a wheel that is about to lock and releases pressure in fractions of a second. It works at the limit of grip. Everything below that limit, which is where nearly all braking takes place, is still the rider's job: how early the lever is touched, how quickly the pressure rises, how smoothly it is let off as the bike turns into a bend. If the ABS on your 1190 Adventure cuts in often on dry roads, the lever is usually being snatched rather than squeezed progressively. A lever that sits in a natural position for your hand makes smooth application easier. On the EDD001 the reach adjuster sets that position, and the blade length decides how many fingers you use: the short blade for two, the long one for the whole hand when the bike is loaded with luggage. The standard blade sits between the two and is the closest to the original lever.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDD001 for the 1190 Adventure from 2013 to 2016, mounted on the original master cylinder. For the clutch side, the ESA090 is listed for the same four model years, and both levers are offered in the same seven colours, so the cockpit of a 1190 Adventure can be finished as a pair.
Road Approval
Since no German ABE is documented for the EDD001, the lever is sold for use on the track.
