DescriptionThe whole story▼
The VT750C Shadow is a traditional cruiser: a V-twin, shaft drive, a low seat and a long, low stance. That shape makes it relaxed on open roads, but it also means limited suspension travel, and anyone who has hit a speed hump too fast on a cruiser remembers it in the spine. In towns full of humps and raised crossings, the front brake is used often and with care. Accossato's EDF018 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the Shadow ABS of 2010 to 2019, with an adjustable reach.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Honda VT750C Shadow ABS, 2010 to 2019
- Also listed for the Phantom and, from 2014 to 2016, the Black Spirit
- Fits the original master cylinder
- Adjustable reach
- Silver or black blade to suit a classic cruiser, five further colours
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised; rigid blade
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato mills the EDF018 from a solid piece of aluminium and anodises it in two tones: a black hub, which holds the pivot and the reach adjuster, and a blade in the colour you choose. On a cruiser with chrome and polished metal around the cockpit, a silver blade blends in, while black suits the darker versions. The lever is fixed, one piece without a hinge, and its anodised surface is part of the metal, so it keeps its colour without any polish.
Slowing for Speed Humps
The trick with speed humps is to finish braking before the front wheel reaches them. A wheel that rolls onto a hump while the brake is still on meets it with the fork already compressed, leaving little travel to absorb the bump, and the jolt goes straight into the bars and the rider's wrists. So slow down early, then ease off the lever a moment before the wheel arrives and let the fork extend and do its job. On the Shadow, whose rear suspension has only modest travel, taking the hump slowly matters as much for the back as for the front. All of this asks for fine control over the release of the brake, not only its application. Set the EDF018 so the blade lies under your fingertips with the arm relaxed; the release can then be as gradual as the squeeze. The standard blade suits most riders, and the long one gives four fingers more room.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF018 for the VT750 Shadow from 2010 to 2019, naming the Shadow and Phantom versions for that period and the Black Spirit for 2014 to 2016. On the clutch side, the ESH626 is listed for 2010 to 2019 and the ESH250 for 2020 and 2021. For the 2020 and 2021 Shadow, Accossato's list shows no brake lever.
Road Approval
No ABE for Germany is on file for this brake lever, and it is sold for track use.
