DescriptionThe whole story▼
For the 2022 model year Honda gave the CBR500R a new front end, with an upside-down fork and a second front disc. Riders who moved to one of these bikes from an earlier CBR500R tend to notice the difference within the first few stops: the brake now answers a lighter touch, and the old habit of pulling firmly before much happens no longer fits. Made by Accossato from CNC-machined aluminium, the EDF018 replaces the brake lever of the 2022 to 2024 CBR500R. It mounts on the original master cylinder and has an adjustable reach, so the stronger brake can be matched to your hand.
Key Features
- Replaces the brake lever of the Honda CBR500R from 2022 to 2024
- For the original master cylinder of the twin-disc front brake
- Reach adjustable at the hub
- Blade lengths: short, standard (approximately 138 mm), long
- Anodised aluminium, machined on CNC equipment
- Hub always black; seven blade colours
- One-piece, fixed construction
- No documented German ABE, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato cuts the EDF018 on CNC machines from solid aluminium and gives it an anodised finish in two tones. The hub, with the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, is always black; the blade takes one of seven colours. A machined lever follows the same programme every time it is made, so its shape and section do not vary, and that consistency matters on the part that tells your fingers how hard the front brake is working. There is no hinge or joint in the blade, only a single rigid piece from hub to tip.
Coming From an Earlier CBR500R
Moving from one disc to two changes how the lever wants to be used. On the older CBR500R, many riders got used to a fairly firm pull before the bike slowed noticeably. Do the same on a 2022 or later bike and the first stop can be sharper than intended, with the front end diving quickly. The remedy is a short spell of relearning and a lever set up for it. Bring the blade to a position where your fingers rest on it without effort, then make a series of stops from moderate speed on a quiet road, adding pressure gradually each time and noting how little is needed. Many riders find that two fingers are now enough for everyday braking, which is where the short blade comes in: it ends before the ring finger, so the other fingers stay around the grip. The short EDF018 is available in silver, blue, orange, gold and green. For thick winter gloves, the long blade gives more leverage and more room.
Fitment and Compatibility
In Accossato's list, the EDF018 appears for the CBR500R of 2022, 2023 and 2024. Earlier bikes from 2013 to 2021, with a single front disc, take a different Accossato brake lever, the EDF025, and for those years the ESH250 clutch lever is listed too. For the 2022 to 2024 CBR500R, the list contains no clutch lever, so this brake lever is sold on its own.
Road Approval
A German ABE has not been documented for the EDF018, and the lever is therefore offered for track use.
