DescriptionThe whole story▼
When Honda built the first CB1000R, it took a four-cylinder engine derived from the Fireblade of the mid-2000s, hung the rear wheel on a single-sided swingarm and still left space for a pillion. The RA is the version fitted with ABS. Plenty of owners use theirs for weekend rides with a partner on the back, and that changes the job of the right hand. The Accossato EDF033 replaces the stock brake lever on the original master cylinder of the 2008 to 2016 CB1000R, with a reach you can set and a blade in three lengths.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Honda CB1000R and CB1000RA, 2008 to 2016
- Mounts on the original master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Reach to the grip adjustable near the pivot
- Short, standard (approximately 138 mm) or long blade
- Hub anodised black, blade in one of seven colours
- CNC-machined aluminium, fixed blade without a folding joint
- No German ABE documented, sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Solid aluminium is the starting point for the EDF033. CNC machines cut the lever to shape, and anodising then gives it a hard, coloured surface: black on the hub, which houses the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, and whichever of the seven colours you pick on the blade. Between the two there is no joint. The lever is fixed along its whole length, so the pressure you build with your fingers reaches the master cylinder without slack along the way. That is most noticeable when you want to brake gently, which is exactly what a passenger will thank you for.
Braking With Someone Behind You
A passenger adds weight over the rear of the bike, and under braking that weight keeps moving forward. Squeeze the lever abruptly and your pillion slides into your back, helmets knock together and every later stop is spent bracing for the next one. Good two-up braking is decided in the first part of the stop: take up the free travel, let the fork settle under light pressure, then build the force in one steady progression and ease off just as gradually before the bike comes to rest. That is far easier when the blade already sits under your fingers. Set the reach so that your fingers can rest on the EDF033 without stretching, and you can begin slowing a moment earlier and more softly. The long blade gives a little more leverage at its tip, which makes small changes in pressure easier with the whole hand, while the standard one is closest to the original CB1000R lever. Try a few stops on your own before the first ride with a passenger.
Fitment and Compatibility
The EDF033 is listed for the first-generation CB1000R, built from 2008 to 2016, and fits the bike's original master cylinder. The redesigned CB1000R of 2018 onwards has a separate listing in our shop. For the clutch side of the 2008 to 2016 bikes, Accossato makes the ESH033 in the same seven colours.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the EDF033, so we offer it for track use only.
