DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ducati designed the Monster 797 of 2017 as an accessible way into its naked bikes, with an air-cooled twin, a low seat and a relaxed character. Accessible bikes attract riders of every build, including many with smaller hands, and for them a front brake lever that sits far from the grip is more than an inconvenience: it means stretching for the brake at the moment it matters. The Accossato EDB012, machined from aluminium, replaces the original brake lever of the 2017 to 2018 Monster 797 and has an adjustable reach.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Monster 797, 2017 to 2018
- Pivots on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable reach for smaller hands
- Short, standard (approximately 138 mm) and long blades
- Machined aluminium with anodised finish
- Blade colours: black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver, green
- Rigid blade, no folding joint
- No German ABE is documented; for use on the track
Construction and Material Quality
The EDB012 is a plain, carefully made piece of machining: a solid aluminium blank shaped on CNC equipment, then anodised. Black on every version, the hub is where the lever turns and where its reach is set. The blade is anodised in the colour you pick and runs in one piece to the tip, without a folding joint. For a rider still building confidence, that matters in a quiet way, because the lever feels the same every time, with no hinge to introduce a slight wobble before the brake responds.
Smaller Hands, Shorter Stretch
On the Monster 797, a rider with smaller hands may find that the original lever can only just be reached with the fingertips, which leaves little strength for a firm squeeze. The adjuster near the pivot brings the blade closer, so the fingers can close around it in the middle of their range, where they are strongest. The short blade is another option: it is easier to cover with two fingers while the palm stays on the grip, and it comes in blue, gold, green, orange and silver.
Take the time to set it up twice, first with the 797 on its side stand and then on the move, because a lever that feels right when stationary may need a small correction once you ride in your usual position.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list gives 2017 and 2018 for the EDB012 on the Monster 797. Later model years of the 797 do not appear in the list, so check the year of your bike before ordering. For the clutch side, Accossato lists the ESD022 for the same two years.
Road Approval
This brake lever is supplied for the track, as no German ABE has been documented.
