DescriptionThe whole story▼
Riders who choose the Monster 1200 R, the most performance-focused version of Ducati's big Monster, tend to care about how their controls are set up. A brake lever has two settings that matter: its angle on the bar and its distance from the grip. The first depends on how the master cylinder is positioned, the second on the lever itself. The Accossato EDF099 replaces the original lever of the Monster 1200 R, listed for 2016 to 2019, with a machined aluminium part whose reach can be adjusted.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Monster 1200 R, 2016 to 2019
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Distance to the grip adjustable
- Blades in short, long and standard, the latter approximately 138 mm
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised
- Black hub, seven blade colours
- Fixed, hinge-free construction
- No German ABE is documented; sold for the circuit
Construction and Material Quality
Because the EDF099 is milled out of solid aluminium, its outline, the pivot bore and the seat for the adjuster all come from the same machining process rather than from a casting mould. After that the lever is anodised in two tones: black on the hub, and the colour you choose on the blade. It is a fixed lever, with no hinge and no second pivot along its length. On the open front end of a Monster 1200 R, the result is a clean, solid part with nothing loose about it.
Lining Up Lever and Forearm
Start with the angle. Sit on the Monster 1200 R in your normal riding position, hands on the grips, and look at the line from your elbow through your wrist to the lever. Ideally the blade continues that line, so the fingers can reach it without the wrist bending up or down. If it does not, the master cylinder needs rotating on the bar, which is done at its clamp, not at the lever.
Then set the distance. With the adjuster close to the pivot, move the blade until the pads of your fingers rest on it just beyond the first knuckle, wearing the gloves you ride in. Only after angle and distance are right does the choice of blade length make full sense, because it depends on how many fingers you want to brake with.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list covers the Monster 1200 R across 2016 to 2019 with this brake lever, and names the ESH011 as its clutch counterpart for the same span. The standard Monster 1200 and the Monster 1200 S appear on separate pages.
Road Approval
Sold for use on the circuit: a documented German ABE does not exist for this lever.
