DescriptionThe whole story▼
For many owners the Hypermotard 939 is the playful second bike, parked next to a tourer or a sports machine. Switching between them brings a small but real problem: the brake lever sits in a different place on each. Hands learn one position and reach for it without thinking. The Accossato EDB012 takes over from the original front brake lever of the standard Hypermotard 939, listed for 2016 to 2018, and because its reach is adjustable it can be set to match the lever position you are used to on your other bike.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the standard Hypermotard 939, 2016 to 2018
- Uses the original master cylinder
- Reach to the grip adjustable near the pivot
- Available short, long or standard (approximately 138 mm)
- CNC-machined from solid aluminium
- Anodised: black hub, coloured blade
- Fixed blade, one piece to the tip
- Sold for use on the track, no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
Every lever Accossato makes starts as solid aluminium and is shaped on CNC machines, and the EDB012 is no exception. Anodising follows, converting the surface into a hard oxide layer that holds the colour: black on the hub with its pivot and adjuster, and the shade you pick on the blade. The result copes with the rubbing of gloves and resists corrosion far better than untreated metal. There is no hinge anywhere in the blade, which is why the lever feels identical from one ride to the next.
Two Bikes, One Pair of Hands
Braking is a reflex, and reflexes are built on repetition. If the lever on your main bike meets your fingers at one point and the lever on the Hypermotard 939 at another, the hand has to recalibrate every time you change bikes, usually in the first hard stop of the day. An adjustable lever removes most of that difference. Sit on your other bike, note where the blade rests relative to your fingers, then set the EDB012 so the 939 matches.
The lengths help as well. If your sports bike has a short lever and you brake with two fingers, the short blade gives the Hypermotard 939 the same feel; if you ride a tourer with a long lever and use the whole hand, the long version does the same in reverse. Both are made in blue, orange, gold and green.
Fitment and Compatibility
The standard Hypermotard 939 is listed by Accossato for 2016 to 2018, with the 2018 model year entered separately. The SP version of the 939 takes a different Accossato brake lever, the EDD001, so check the version before ordering. For the clutch side of both bikes, Accossato lists the ESD082 over the same three years.
Road Approval
We cannot supply a German ABE with this lever, since none is documented; it is sold for the track.
