DescriptionThe whole story▼
A sport tourer is judged at the end of a long day, and the BMW R 1200 RS is often asked to cover several hundred kilometres of motorway before the interesting roads begin. Over that distance, small details of the controls add up. A brake lever that makes the fingers stretch every time you cover it tires the hand long before the rest of you. With the Accossato EDB077, a machined aluminium brake lever for the R 1200 RS of 2015 to 2019, you can set the reach to your hand and choose from three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Replaces the front brake lever of the BMW R 1200 RS, 2015 to 2019
- Pivots on the RS's original master cylinder
- Distance to the grip set with an adjuster
- Lengths: short, long, and standard at approximately 138 mm
- CNC-machined from solid aluminium, then anodised
- Hub in black, blade in a choice of seven colours
- Rigid blade, no hinge
- No German ABE documented, track use only
Construction and Material Quality
The EDB077 is machined, not cast. Accossato starts from solid aluminium and removes material on CNC equipment until the lever has its final form, then anodises it: black for the hub, which holds the pivot bore and the adjuster, and your chosen colour for the blade. Because the blade has no joint, there is nothing in the lever that loosens with mileage. The hardness of the anodised surface keeps its appearance through insects, rain and the cleaning that follows a long motorway day.
Long Motorway Days
On a motorway, the right hand spends hours holding the throttle at a steady opening, and the fingers drift towards the lever whenever traffic ahead slows. Each of those movements is small, but repeated again and again over a day they are a common source of an aching hand. Bringing the blade in so that the fingertips reach it with the hand relaxed reduces the stretch every time you cover the brake. Riders with large hands or thick gloves may want the opposite and move the blade out, so that it does not press on the fingers while they hold the grip.
For long distances, the standard or long blade is the calmer choice on the R 1200 RS. The long version lets four fingers share the effort in a firm stop, and its extra leverage means less force for the same result. The short blade remains an option for riders who brake with two fingers out of habit.
Fitment and Compatibility
The EDB077 is on Accossato's list for the R 1200 RS from 2015 to 2019. The list also includes the EDB001 for the RS, covering 2015 to 2018; comparing your original lever with pictures of both levers makes the choice easier. On the clutch side of the R 1200 RS, the ESB002 is listed for 2015 to 2019 and offered in the same seven colours.
Road Approval
As no German ABE is documented for the EDB077, we offer it as a track part.
