DescriptionThe whole story▼
The R 1200 R that arrived for 2015 was BMW's roadster with the liquid-cooled boxer, and unlike its predecessors it rode on a conventional upside-down fork instead of a Telelever. It is the kind of bike people use every day, to work and back, whatever the sky is doing. In the wet, braking turns into a matter of gentle, progressive pressure, and a lever in the right place makes that pressure much easier to control. For the BMW R 1200 R of 2015 to 2019, Accossato makes the EDB077, a machined aluminium brake lever with adjustable reach.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the BMW R 1200 R, 2015 to 2019
- Fits the original master cylinder of the roadster
- Reach adjustment close to the pivot
- Short, standard (approx. 138 mm) and long blades
- Aluminium, machined on CNC equipment and anodised
- Seven blade colours, hub always black
- Rigid construction with no folding joint
- Sold for track use; no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
Water, road salt and grit are what a commuter's controls live with, and they are the reason an anodised lever makes sense on a bike ridden in every season. The EDB077 is machined from solid aluminium on CNC equipment; anodising then forms a hard oxide skin from the metal itself, black on the hub and in your chosen colour on the blade. With no paint film, there is nothing for moisture to creep under. The hub holds the pivot and the reach adjuster, and the blade continues in one rigid piece to its tip.
Wet Roads and Wet Gloves
Rain changes how you brake, not only how far. A wet road still offers grip, but it rewards a squeeze that starts softly and builds rather than a sudden grab. That kind of pressure is easiest to control when the fingers meet the lever early in their movement, with the hand relaxed. In waterproof gloves, which are usually bulkier than a summer pair, the blade can end up closer to the palm than you would like; moving it outwards with the adjuster restores the gap before the next wet commute on the R 1200 R.
The long blade is worth a look for all-weather riders. It gives four gloved fingers room and more leverage, so a given deceleration takes less effort and can be dosed more finely. The standard blade stays closest to the original feel, and the short version suits two-finger braking, a style many commuters use because it keeps the other fingers on the throttle in slow traffic.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list includes the R 1200 R from 2015 to 2019 for the EDB077, which means the liquid-cooled roadster. The earlier R 1200 R with the air/oil-cooled engine is not on it. For the clutch, the ESC075 covers the same model years with the same colours, so both sides of the bar can be ordered as a pair.
Road Approval
A German ABE has not been documented for this brake lever; its intended place is the track.
