DescriptionThe whole story▼
Touring on a K 1600 GTL means stopping where the view is good, and the view is rarely next to a smooth car park. More often it is a gravel lay-by on a mountain road or a loose shoulder above a lake. Bringing a heavy luxury tourer to a halt there calls for a different kind of braking. For such stops on the K 1600 GTL of 2017 to 2019, Accossato offers the EDB077, a CNC-machined brake lever that sits on the original master cylinder and has an adjustable distance to the grip.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the BMW K 1600 GTL, 2017 to 2019
- Mounts on the original BMW master cylinder
- Distance to the grip adjustable
- Standard blade about 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
- Machined from aluminium and anodised
- Black hub, blade in seven colours
- Fixed design without a folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Gravel lay-bys throw up dust and small stones, and a painted lever would show the marks before long. The EDB077 is anodised instead. After CNC machining from aluminium, its surface is turned into a tough, dyed oxide skin, black at the hub and in the colour you pick on the blade. The hub carries the pivot bore and the reach adjuster. The lever is fixed, one piece from the hub to the tip, with no hinge in which dust could settle.
Pulling Over Onto Gravel
The rule worth remembering is to do the braking on the tarmac. Slow to walking pace while you are still on the road surface, with the bike upright and the handlebars straight, and only then roll onto the gravel. Once on it, use the front brake gently, if at all, and never with the bars turned: a front wheel that locks on loose stones with the steering at an angle will put a heavy bike on its side in an instant. At walking pace the rear brake does most of the work. Choose where to stop with care, too. Ground that slopes away from the road makes it hard to push a GTL back out, so stop facing the way you want to leave. For the gentle squeezes this involves, the lever must meet your fingers without a stretch, and the EDB077's reach adjuster lets you set that. With a passenger on the K 1600 GTL, ask them to stay seated until both your feet are down and the side stand is on firm ground.
Fitment and Compatibility
The EDB077 is listed by Accossato for the K 1600 GTL from 2017 to 2019. The earlier GTL of 2011 to 2016 has its own brake lever in the list, the EDB001. The EDB077 replaces the stock lever on the original master cylinder. For the clutch of the 2017 to 2019 GTL, Accossato names the ESC075.
Road Approval
Since no German ABE has been documented for the EDB077, it is offered for use on closed tracks.
