DescriptionThe whole story▼
With its 21-inch front wheel and long-travel suspension, the F 800 GS of 2008 to 2018 was the off-road-minded member of BMW's middleweight twins, and plenty of owners fit tyres to match: coarse, blocky treads that bite in gravel and mud. Back on tarmac, those same tyres ask for a lighter touch on the brake. The EDB001 is Accossato's CNC-machined front brake lever for this F 800 GS. It mounts on the original master cylinder, and its reach can be adjusted for fine control in the first part of the lever's travel.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the BMW F 800 GS, listed for 2008 to 2018
- Mounts on the original master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Distance to the grip adjustable at the hub
- Standard blade approx. 138 mm, plus short and long versions in selected colours
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised in two tones
- Seven blade colours, black hub on every lever
- Rigid blade with no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
An adventure bike brings mud, dust and pressure washers into a lever's life, and that is where a one-piece design helps. The EDB001 has no folding joint, so there is no second pivot for grit to work its way into; the only moving connection is the one at the hub. Accossato machines the lever from aluminium on CNC equipment and then anodises it. The hub, with the pivot bore and reach adjuster, is black, while the blade carries the colour you select, and the whole part tolerates hard cleaning after a day in the dirt.
Knobbly Tyres on Tarmac
An off-road tyre grips loose ground with individual tread blocks that dig in. On tarmac those blocks put a smaller area of rubber on the road and can flex under load, so the front starts to squirm sooner than on a road tyre, and the limit of grip comes earlier, especially while the tyre is cold. That does not mean braking late or timidly. It means building pressure smoothly and giving the tyre a moment to take the load before you ask for more. On the F 800 GS this is fingertip work, and fingertips are most sensitive when they meet the lever without being stretched. Set the EDB001's reach so the blade lies against the first finger joint when your hand rests on the grip. Riders who brake with two fingers, as many do off-road, can choose the short blade in blue, gold, green, orange or silver; the long blade suits a four-finger squeeze in thick gloves.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDB001 for the F 800 GS from 2008 to 2018, the twin with the 21-inch front wheel. BMW reused the F 800 GS name for a different motorcycle in 2024, and that later model is not part of this listing. On the clutch side of the bike, the matching Accossato lever is the ESB008, listed for the same 2008 to 2018 bikes and made in the same colours on the same black hub.
Road Approval
No ABE for German roads is documented for this lever. It is sold for track use.
