DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Dorsoduro 1200 took the supermoto recipe of tall seat, wide handlebar and upright stance and paired it with a big V-twin. Riders sit close to the front with their elbows out, and many brake the way supermoto riders do, with one or two fingers while the rest of the hand stays on the grip. The Accossato EDB080 is a machined aluminium brake lever for the Dorsoduro 1200, listed from 2010 to 2016, that fits the original master cylinder and lets you choose both its reach and its length.
Key Features
- Replaces the front brake lever of the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200, 2010 to 2016
- Works with the original master cylinder
- Short blade for one- or two-finger braking, in blue, gold, green, orange or silver
- Standard length approximately 138 mm, available in all seven colours
- Long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
- Distance to the grip adjustable at the hub
- Anodised aluminium, black hub, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented: for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato cuts the EDB080 from a solid aluminium blank on CNC machines and anodises it afterwards, which puts the colour into the surface of the metal instead of laying it on top. The black hub holds the pivot and the reach adjuster. The blade is coloured and continues without a joint to its tip, so a one-finger squeeze arrives at the master cylinder as directly as a full grab. One honest note for a bike whose rider likes to put a boot down in tight turns: a rigid lever has no hinge that could give way in a fall, so a tip-over can bend it just as it would bend the original.
Wide Bars, Few Fingers
A wide handlebar changes how braking feels. The long bar gives your arms plenty of leverage over the steering, so the hand does not have to clamp the grip, and that leaves the fingers free to work the lever with precision. It is the reason so many riders on bikes like the Dorsoduro 1200 use only the index finger, or index and middle finger together, on the front brake. The other fingers stay around the grip and hold the throttle steady through the change from driving to braking and back again.
For that technique the short blade is the logical pick. It ends before the ring and little finger, so they cannot be pinched between blade and grip when the lever comes back under a hard squeeze. Set the reach so the first joint of your index finger lands on the blade without lifting the wrist. Riders who like the whole hand on the brake, on a long road trip or in the rain, may be happier with the standard lever of about 138 mm, which exists in every colour, or with the long blade and its extra leverage.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDB080 for the Dorsoduro 1200 from 2010 to 2016, fitted to the bike's original front master cylinder. The same lever appears for the Caponord 1200, the touring model built around this engine. Accossato's clutch lever for the Dorsoduro 1200 is the ESC080, which covers the same years and can be ordered in a matching or a contrasting colour.
Road Approval
German road approval (ABE) is not documented for this brake lever, so it is sold as a part for circuit use.
