DescriptionThe whole story▼
A 125 teaches a lesson that bigger bikes let you ignore: speed lost in a corner does not come back on the next straight. Riders who take a Yamaha MT-125 to a kart circuit or a small track on a training day learn this within a few laps. Everything depends on carrying momentum, and that depends on a rider who sits calmly and moves precisely. Accossato's FT087 is an adjustable aluminium rearset listed for the MT-125 of 2015 and 2016. It sets the feet further back than stock and has knurled pegs and lever tips.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato was founded in 1969 in Moncalieri, and the FT087 has the plain, functional look the company describes. The set is made of aluminium. Its footpegs are knurled, the tips of the levers share the same finish, and aluminium heel guards protect the heels. Accossato calls the kit adjustable but gives no details of the adjustment in its description, so we say no more than that. You can choose between all black and black with blue details.
Momentum on a Small Track
On a kart circuit a 125 spends almost the whole lap leaned over or on its way into or out of a corner. There is little power to hide mistakes, so the fast riders are the smooth ones: they brake less, carry more speed to the apex and pick the bike up early. Body position plays a bigger part than many expect. A rider who moves across the seat in one clean motion, weight on the balls of the feet, disturbs the bike less than one who shuffles about. On a light MT-125 the rider makes up a large share of the total weight, so every movement shows in the line the bike takes. Rearward pegs support the posture that makes those movements easy: the legs are folded, the knees can meet the tank and the feet can push the body across. Knurling helps the boot stay put while it does so. If you are new to circuits, a training day with an instructor is the right place to learn this, and the habits formed on a 125 carry over to every bigger bike you ride later.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FT087 for the MT-125 of the 2015 and 2016 model years. Its description gives the shift as standard or reversed depending on the model, so please ask us before ordering if you want the reversed pattern on the MT-125. Reversed shifting is a circuit habit and would be unusual on the road. The installation belongs in a workshop, where the gear and brake linkages are set up, the free play at the rear brake is checked and the brake light is tested. Yamaha's torque values and thread locker as specified complete the job, and the rider should try the new position on the stand before the first lap.
Road Approval
For the FT087 there is no German ABE or parts report on file. It is sold for training days and racing on closed circuits.
