DescriptionThe whole story▼
This matte Shiever colourway trades the glossy version's red accents for a monochrome grey-and-silver graphic, with distressed lettering and a circle-and-slash motif over the visible carbon weave — a rougher, more graffiti-inspired read than the cleaner diagonal pattern of the glossy Anthracite Red version. It is also the most expensive decor in this line short of the Zarco Suzuka replica, priced slightly above its glossy sibling. Set beside its glossy Anthracite Red sibling, this matte version leans into a cooler, more monochrome mood — a deliberate contrast within the same Shiever family rather than a simple recolour exercise.
The matte finish
A matte clear coat sits over the carbon weave and the grey-silver graphic, suiting the distressed, hand-scrawled lettering style better than gloss would by keeping the look flatter and grittier rather than polished. As with any matte coat, fingerprints and light surface marks show more readily than on a gloss finish. The silver highlights in the lettering pick up ambient light differently under a matte coat than they would under gloss, giving the graphic a more subdued, foil-like shimmer rather than a hard reflective flash.
About this Shiever colourway
This is the matte half of the Shiever pairing in this line, sharing the base graphic concept with the glossy Anthracite Red version above but in a cooler, monochrome grey-silver palette and a rougher distressed-lettering style rather than the cleaner diagonal lines of its sibling. As with the glossy version, Shark maintains a separate dedicated product page for this exact matte article (HE8162EDAS), which is the direct source for the spec figures used throughout this listing rather than a general carbon-range summary.
ECE 22.06 under this graphic
Shiever Mat carries the same ECE 22.06 certification as every decor in this range, mandatory across the EU since January 2024. Against the older 22.05 standard, the shell is now struck at eighteen points across several speeds rather than five points at one, faces a new oblique-impact test against a rough anvil, and is scored for rotational-impact energy for the first time via a Brain Injury Criterion.
What the carbon shell changes, and what it doesn't
The shell is carbon, at Shark's stated 1455 g for the first shell size, identical in construction to the rest of this line and distinct from the 1500 g fibre shell sold as the separate Spartan RS. Certification, closure, EPS and visor family carry across both shells unchanged; carbon's real advantage is weight and finish, not extra protection.
What 1455 g means over a riding day
Shark's figure for this decor is 1455 g at the first shell size, matching every other decor in this carbon line since the shell itself is unchanged by colourway; an independent test unit for the range weighed 1485 g. That mass is carried entirely by the neck across the whole ride, loaded dynamically through braking and leaning rather than sitting passively.
Ventilation
The shared carbon shell was independently scored 3.0 out of 5 for ventilation: effective chin-vent airflow specifically when leaning forward, less so in hot weather, and a top vent rated adequate. This is a property of the shell construction rather than the colourway, and applies to Shiever Mat exactly as to the rest of this carbon range. Riders planning summer track days rather than daily commuting should weigh that hot-weather limitation carefully before choosing this decor over a more ventilation-focused helmet.
Sun visor and outer visor
A drop-down sun visor with incremental positioning is standard, and the outer VZ300 visor — optical class 1, 2.8 mm to 2.2 mm thickness, four-point anchored, centrally locked, anti-scratch coated, Pinlock 120 pre-fitted — is the same family fitted across the fibre and carbon Spartan RS lines alike.
What ships in the box
A helmet bag, reflective bands and the pre-fitted Pinlock 120 Max Vision insert are documented as standard inclusions on this decor's own product page, alongside a 5-year warranty. The outer visor is tool-free to remove and the chin flap can be taken off for a cleaner look or more airflow.
Intercom compatibility
The cheek-pad recess for Shark's Sharktooth intercom or a SENA For SHARK unit is built into the shell, sitting flush rather than externally mounted — unchanged from the rest of the line and confirmed on this decor's own product page.
Fit and sizing
The XS-to-XXL run spans two shell sizes, with head-circumference figures published on the product page (53/54 cm through 63 cm). The carbon-specific interior — brushed suede-effect Alveotech, a tight wind-isolating neck roll, glasses-friendly design — is the same across this whole carbon line.
Wind noise, honestly
No manufacturer dB figure exists. The independent score for this carbon shell is 4.0 out of 5, describing slight buffeting at motorway speed and good ambient awareness in town — a review score rather than a lab measurement, reported as such.
Spare parts
The VZ300 visor here is covered by Shark's standing spare-visor listing and shared with the Spartan RS Fibre and the Spartan GT Pro Carbon, keeping replacement stock and tints available across three current lines rather than tied to this decor alone.
Where this sits in Shark's own range
Set against Shark's own current 2027 lineup rather than a competitor's:
| Line | Shell |
|---|---|
| Spartan RS Fibre | Multiaxial composite fibre |
| OXO | Thermoplastic modular |
| Spartan RS Carbon | Carbon, VZ300 visor shared with Fibre |
| Spartan GT Pro | Thermoplastic |
| Spartan GT Pro Carbon | Carbon, also shares the VZ300 visor |
Limitations, honestly
As with its glossy sibling, a comparable test unit showed all sizes sold out at the time of the independent review used here — a stock situation worth checking rather than a fixed feature. The shared carbon shell's 3.0-out-of-5 ventilation score and the reported Pinlock-fitting issue on an early unit apply here too, and the distressed graphic style will read as busy to riders who prefer a cleaner look. This is the second most expensive decor in the line after the Zarco Suzuka replica, a price that reflects the finish and graphic work rather than any additional hardware over the cheaper Carbon Skin decors.
