DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
Light Silver is the quietest way to have a metallic finish. It reads as pale grey at rest and only shows its metal content when the sun moves across it — which is precisely why it sits so well on the aluminium, silver and raw-finish motorcycles it was drawn for.
Five stars from SHARP — and the number behind them
The Neotec 3 holds a five-star SHARP rating from February 2024. Read against the rest of what we sell, that puts it in a very small group: most modular helmets on the market are either unrated — never submitted — or sit at three or four stars.
An ECE label tells you a helmet met the legal minimum. SHARP tells you how far past it the helmet went, measured the same way for every model. The two together are worth far more than either alone.
About the Light Silver finish
A metallic lacquer is not a colour with glitter added; it is aluminium flake suspended in the clear layer, and the flake orientation is what makes the surface change as you walk around it. On a helmet that matters more than on a tank, because a helmet is a compound curve seen from every angle at once — the crown reflects sky, the temples reflect road, and a light metallic picks up both. The practical consequence is the best of any finish here for daily use: pale enough that road film does not read as neglect, metallic enough that light scratches scatter rather than forming a clean bright line. It is also the finish that photographs worst and looks best in person, which is why it is under-ordered relative to how good it is.
P and J, and what ECE 22.06 actually tests
Rotation is what a real crash usually delivers. A glancing blow that twists the head tears the bridging veins between brain and skull, and it does so at energies a shell survives comfortably. ECE 22.06 measures it for the first time, through an oblique drop onto an abrasive anvil, against the Brain Injury Criterion.
Alongside it sits P/J: certified as a full-face, and separately as a jet with the bar up.
AIM, three shells, and the steel that holds the chin bar
Multi-density EPS deserves more than a bullet point. The impact liner is not one uniform block of polystyrene but several grades assembled together, each placed where its absorption characteristics do most good. That is how a single helmet copes with both a high-energy crash and a low-speed knock, and it is a meaningful part of why this shell rated as it did.
Around it, the AIM shell: fibreglass and organic fibres laminated in resin, in three sizes.
CNS-3C and QSV-2 — and the Neotec II trap
The QSV-2 internal sun visor is the reason many riders choose this helmet over a full-face. It deploys steplessly rather than in fixed positions, and it is large enough to cover the usable field of view well below the eyeline — which is where cheaper drop-down shades fall short, leaving a bright band under the tint exactly where low sun sits.
It can also be swapped, tool-free, for an optional yellow contrast-enhancing version.
Quiet by design, and what that costs in airflow
Wind noise on a helmet comes from three places: the neck roll, the gaps around moving parts, and open vents. A modular helmet has more of the second category than a full-face by definition — which is exactly why so many flip-ups are loud, and why the effort Shoei put into closing those gaps is the defining engineering story of this helmet.
🔵 The trade is real: ventilation here is adequate, not abundant.
Noise Isolator, glasses, and talking to the helmet
Fit on this helmet is adjustable in two directions, which is unusual. Cheek pads in different thicknesses set how firmly the helmet is held at the jaw — the thing that stops it rotating under braking. And an insertable pad adjusts the vertical position, raising or lowering the helmet on the head.
The Neotec 3 follows Shoei's intermediate-oval shape, which suits a majority of European heads but not all of them.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
Read the table by type rather than by price. Shoei covers jet, full-face and modular in the same touring bracket, and the money mostly tracks format rather than quality — the X-SPR PRO at the top is a racing helmet with no sun visor at all, not a better touring one.
The Neotec 3 is the flip-up, and the only one of them with a five-star SHARP rating on this page.

1750 grams, and the rest of the honest list
What this helmet asks of you, stated plainly. It is not light at 1750 g. It is not the coolest helmet you can buy, because Shoei spent the airflow budget on acoustics. And the open chin bar is a stationary and slow-speed feature, not a riding position — above roughly 30 km/h the drag is obvious.
What it gives back is five SHARP stars, a 93 % chin-bar lock rate and one of the quietest shells on the market.
When something wears out
Cheek pads are the first part of the interior to wear out, because they take the most sweat and the most friction going on and off. They are also the cheapest way to restore the fit of a helmet that has loosened — and, on this helmet, the part that carries the Noise Isolator shaping that keeps it quiet.
🔵 Visor replacements must be CNS-3C, not the Neotec II's CNS-3.
