DescriptionThe whole story

Please note: sale to France is prohibited.

Cross Logo2 is the other graphic in the J•O2 range and it takes the opposite approach to the Aventure: instead of a flowing decor it uses a hard graphic device, white against purple, sitting square on the shell. It is the most contemporary-looking version of a deliberately old-looking helmet.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

If you have only ever worn full-face helmets, the first ride in a jet is a genuine surprise — the periphery opens up, the noise changes character, and the helmet stops feeling like something you are inside.

🔵 The second thing to understand is the cost of that: no chin bar, no jaw protection, and a certification category that does not include either. Both facts are true at once, and the J•O2 is worth buying only if the second one is acceptable to you.

About the Cross Logo2 TC-6 graphic

There is a tension in this one that the solids do not have, and it is the reason it works. The J•O2's whole architecture — the round dome, the leather trim, the press studs for a peak, the goggle loop — points backwards to the era of open-face helmets and motocross goggles. Cross Logo2 puts a modern graphic language on top of that, and the collision is the design. It reads particularly well with the Retro MX peak fitted, where the reference becomes explicit rather than implied. Purple is also an unusual choice that has aged better on helmets than it has on almost anything else. Practically: white areas show dirt sooner than the shell around them, and as with any decor the surface cannot be touched in if it is chipped — but the overall conspicuity is high, which is worth something in town.

AIM, four shells and a double-D ring

Two things do the protective work and they do different jobs. The AIM shell spreads the load and stops penetration; the polystyrene liner underneath absorbs the energy by permanently deforming. Shoei assembles that liner from elements of differing density so the deformation happens where it is most useful.

Around it: four outer shell sizes, so the fit is achieved by shell as well as by padding, and a double-D ring at the chin.

The CJ-4 visor — and the Pinlock that does not exist for it

The J•O2 gives you two entirely separate ways to protect your eyes, which is unusual. The integrated CJ-4 visor, in six tints and three drop positions; or classic goggles, secured by the imitation leather strap loop at the rear of the shell with the visor raised.

🔵 Only one caveat applies to both: the CJ-4 is not Pinlock-compatible, so if you want a treated anti-fog lens in front of your eyes, it has to be the goggles.

Press studs, peaks and goggles

🔵 Peaks and goggles are accessories bought separately — the helmet ships with neither. What it ships with is the hardware to accept them: three press studs at the brow, and an imitation leather strap loop at the rear of the shell.

The peak styles available are the Classic, the GT and the Retro MX, plus the V-480 shield; all of them also fit the Shoei EX-Zero.

Ventilation without a single vent

Airflow is one of the few areas where an open-face needs no argument made for it. Your face is in the wind. What Shoei had to solve was everything above that — keeping air moving over the crown and through the padding without putting hardware on a shell whose appeal depends on having none.

The integrated system does that, and the helmet stays comfortable in warm weather rather than merely tolerable.

Interior, trim and getting the fit right

Two useful facts about living with this interior. It comes out entirely — head pad, both cheek pads, chin strap covers — and it goes back in without a struggle, which is not true of every helmet. And the cheek and centre pads exist in several thicknesses, so the fit is a specification you can change rather than one you inherit.

A Shoei dealer can go further with a PFS fitting, shimming the interior to your head shape.

Around 1150 grams, and the rest of the honest list

The best argument for a light helmet is not comfort on a long ride, it is the short one. At around 1150 g and with no chin bar to work around, the J•O2 is the helmet you put on for a ten-minute errand rather than deciding to take the car.

🔵 What you accept in return: significant wind noise at speed, and no communication provision or speaker recesses in the padding.

Where it sits in Shoei's range

At 399 € this is the least expensive way into a Shoei, and that raises a fair question about what has been left out. The answer is equipment, not construction: no sun visor, no communication provision, no adjustable vents, no Pinlock.

The shell is AIM, the liner is multi-density EPS, there are four shell sizes, and the approval is current ECE 22.06 — none of which is entry-level.

When something wears out

Helmets are consumables with a long life rather than permanent objects. Shoei recommends replacement after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any real impact — the EPS liner crushes once and does not recover.

Between those two points, everything you touch is replaceable: CJ-4 visors in six tints, all three peaks, and interior padding in several thicknesses.
