DescriptionThe whole story▼
Black and grey with an orange accent is the most restrained Quest — the graphic is fully present but carried almost entirely in tone, with the orange used as a marker rather than a field.
Peak, aperture and the adventure compromise
The Y.TRAVL is Nexx's accessible adventure helmet — a thermoplastic shell rather than a composite one, at roughly a third of the price of their carbon adventure helmets, with the same three-way usability.
🔵 The peak removes for road-only riding; there is a wide aperture for goggles if you want them; and the clear visor covers everything in between.
About the Quest Black Grey graphic
Tonal graphics age considerably better than coloured ones, because a palette dates and a value structure does not. On this shell the effect is a helmet that reads as dark and plain at distance and resolves into a design close up — which suits a slim, streamlined profile better than a full livery would. The orange accent does useful work too: it is a small area of the one colour the eye resolves fastest in flat light and tree shade. 🔵 The dark ground hides trail dust well; the matt finish is washed rather than polished, and holds dry dust more visibly than gloss.
Polyfusion, two shells and four approvals
The profile is described by Nexx as aggressively streamlined, and on an adventure helmet that is unusual — most are shaped for airflow around a peak rather than for low drag. It is part of why the measured noise result is reasonable for the category.
The material is Polyfusion thermoplastic in two outer shell sizes.
The visor, the wide eye port and the second shield
X-SWIFT is the tool-free quick-release: no screws, no base plates to align, nothing to drop at the roadside. On a helmet supplied with two visors, that is what makes the second one worth having rather than leaving in a drawer.
The clear visor is optical class 1 with an anti-scratch coating.
The sun visor and its glove-friendly button
🔵 Ultraviolet exposure through a clear visor is real and cumulative. A clear visor blocks a large share but not all of it, and a shield filtering 99 % is a meaningful addition on long summer rides rather than a comfort feature alone.
It deploys on an external, glove-operable button on the shell.
Two intakes, four exhausts — and a zero-degree measurement
The channels moulded into the EPS are the part doing the work. Rather than passing air over the crown under the liner, they route it around the head between the shell and the padding — which is why a two-intake system delivers what it does.
🔵 Independent measurement: zero-degree interior delta, ventilation scored 4 out of 5.
How loud it actually is
Two riders will describe the same helmet completely differently, and neither will be wrong: height, riding position, screen and shoulder airflow change the result more than the shell does.
🔵 The one comparable figure is the measured one: around 102 dB, scored 3 out of 5 in an independent road test.
Interior, retention and fit
🔵 A new helmet should feel firm but never painful. The liner beds in over the first few hours and again across the first season, so a helmet that is perfect in the shop will usually be loose by the end of the summer.
Start tighter than comfortable. The Y.TRAVL was independently found true to size.
Around 1.8 kilograms, and the rest of the honest list
🔵 Manufacturer helmet weights are quoted for a specific size, usually the smallest in the shell, and often without the accessories a customer receives. The measured 1805 g here was a size M — the middle of the range.
Expect the larger shell, L to XXL, to weigh more again.
What is in the box, comms and spare parts
Spare parts are worth checking before buying any adventure helmet. For the Y.TRAVL, visors, Pinlock lenses, the peak and extensor, cheek pads, crown pads, chin-strap covers, the nose guard and the wind deflector are all separately available.
🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished.
