DescriptionThe whole story

Pure is the plain line of the Braker SV, and gloss white is the version that earns its keep in traffic rather than in photographs. On a sport-touring helmet used for commuting, that is the argument worth having.

Entry sport-touring — and what that means

MT positions the Braker SV as its entry into sport-touring — the accessible „little brother" of the best-selling Thunder 4 SV, with the same feature set at a lower price.

🔵 It carries both ECE 22.06 and DOT approval, which is more than most helmets in this class manage and genuinely useful if the helmet ever crosses the Atlantic.

About the gloss white finish

A white helmet at head height is the single brightest thing a rider carries, and it sits above the headlight exactly where an approaching driver's eye scans. On unfamiliar roads and in flat European light that is worth more than any styling decision. There is a thermal benefit alongside it: a pale shell reflects solar load a dark one converts into interior heat, which matters in the slow traffic where three air intakes cannot do much. 🔵 The cost is dirt — road film and insect strike show on white sooner than on anything else in this range.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT

The shell is HIRP — High Impact Resistant Polymer — a high-strength thermoplastic tuned for impact resistance relative to weight, at roughly 1525 g.

🔵 It carries full ECE 22.06 homologation and DOT approval, so it is road-legal across ECE markets and in the United States.

The single-action sun visor

The drop-down sun visor is single-action — one movement of a slider deploys or retracts it, rather than the two-stage arrangement some helmets at this price use.

🔵 That is the difference between a sun visor you use and one you forget about, because a mechanism you can work in gloves without looking is one you will actually reach for at 100 km/h.

MT-QVSS, and the anti-fog insert you buy separately

The MT-V-28B visor runs on MT-QVSS with a two-button release — both sides at once, so the visor comes off squarely rather than being twisted out of one plate.

🔵 It is ready for Pinlock DKS435 or FogOff FOG010, but neither insert is supplied. On a year-round helmet that is the first accessory to buy.

Three intakes and a spoiler that vents

Ventilation is three air intakes feeding an integrated rear spoiler with an air exhaust built into it — so the spoiler is doing aerodynamic and ventilation work at once rather than being a styling part.

🔵 No independent test has measured the result. This is MT's documented layout rather than a verified performance figure.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

Retention is MT-Micrometric+ — a micrometric ratchet that fastens quickly, adjusts finely and locks reliably. It is the same closure family MT uses across its 2024-generation helmets.

🔵 Check the adjustment every few months. A ratchet has a set position that can drift, and the helmet should be snug enough that it cannot be rolled forward off your head.

Interior, fit and the nose deflector

The interior is fully removable and washable, and a nose deflector is supplied — which on a helmet with no anti-fog insert in the box is more useful than it would otherwise be.

🔵 Wash the lining a few times a season. Sweat breaks down foam over time, and a lining washed regularly lasts appreciably longer than one that never is.

Universal UCS intercom mount

The helmet carries a universal UCS intercom mount — universal rather than tied to MT's own system, so the communicator you already own will fit.

🔵 No system is supplied. „Universal" is the right approach at this price, because a rider buying a 115-euro helmet is unlikely to buy a brand-specific unit to match it.

Where it sits in MT's range

The Braker SV is MT's entry into sport-touring and sits between the Stinger 2 below it and the Thunder 4 R SV above.

🔵 Against the Stinger 2 it gains a sun visor, DOT approval and a spoiler. Against the Thunder 4 R SV it gives up the supplied Pinlock insert and around 25 g.

When something wears out

Everything on this helmet that wears is available separately: the MT-V-28B visor, DKS435 Pinlock lenses, FogOff FOG010 inserts, cheek pads, the complete lining and the nose deflector.

🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks from outside.

In the box

  • MT Braker SV helmet — Pure A0 (HIRP shell)
  • Clear MT-V-28B visor, fitted
  • Nose deflector
  • 🔵 No anti-fog insert — the visor is ready for Pinlock DKS435 or FogOff FOG010; both are separate purchases
  • 🔵 No intercom — the helmet has a universal UCS mount; the system is a separate purchase

  • Helmet type — Full-face, entry sport-touring
  • ShellHIRP (High Impact Resistant Polymer)
  • Weight — approx. 1525 g
  • Sizes — XS to XXXL (seven sizes)
  • VisorMT-V-28B with MT-QVSS two-button tool-free quick release
  • 🔴 Anti-fog — ready for Pinlock® DKS435 or FogOff FOG010neither insert is supplied
  • Sun visorsingle-action drop-down shield — one movement of the slider
  • Ventilation — three air intakes and an integrated rear spoiler with an air exhaust. 🔴 No independent measurement of the airflow exists
  • RetentionMT-Micrometric+ micrometric closure
  • Interior — fully removable and washable
  • Communicationuniversal UCS intercom mount — takes standard communicators; no system supplied
  • Also supplied — nose deflector
  • Impact liner — expanded polystyrene — crushes once and does not recover; replace the helmet after any real impact
  • Serviceability — visor, anti-fog insert, sun shield, lining, cheek pads and nose deflector all available separately
  • Made for — commuting, country roads and moderate distances — not a long-distance touring helmet
  • Manufacturer — MT-Helmets (MT Helmets, Spain)
  • Replacement guidance — after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
  • Worth budgeting — an anti-fog insert — Pinlock DKS435 or FogOff FOG010 — before the first cold month. Neither is supplied, and a winter commute mists the visor at every stop without one
  • Compared with the Stinger 2 — that helmet costs 30 € less and has no sun visor, no DOT approval and no spoiler. Both use HIRP shells homologated to ECE 22.06 — the difference is equipment, not protection standard
  • Compared with the Thunder 4 R SV — that helmet costs 42 € more and adds a Pinlock DKS435 insert in the box plus roughly 25 g less weight, on the same HIRP platform
  • Care — wash the lining by hand a few times a season; never wipe the visor or the sun shield dry, as road dust scratches both permanently
  • Sizing note — measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and try the size the chart gives you. A helmet that can be rolled forward off your head with the strap fastened is too large

“MCN calls it a shrewd budget choice and the numbers agree: quiet at road speeds, decent airflow, a sun visor that locks properly and no rattles. At 115 € the only thing it really gives up is weight.”
