DescriptionThe whole story▼

Fluorescent yellow on a carbon shell is an unusual combination and a coherent one: the most expensive material in the range finished in the only colour here chosen for a measurable reason rather than a visual one.

Carbon throughout — chin bar included

🔵 A carbon modular at 1550 g is not a light helmet in absolute terms, and it is worth saying so. A carbon full-face like LS2's own FF807 Dragon is 100 g lighter than this.

The difference is the mechanism: a hinge, a lock, a second screen and a sun-visor housing, none of which a full-face carries.

No safety rating — and why the Advant X stars do not apply here

🔵 A helmet with no rating and a helmet with a poor rating are different things. Nobody has measured this one's impact performance, so the available evidence is its ECE 22.06 P/J homologation — the legal requirement every helmet on sale clears.

That is a reasonable basis for many riders. It should be a decision rather than an assumption made from a sibling's stars.

A flip-up with P/J dual homologation

🔵 Check for P/J on any modular you consider. It appears on the approval label on the chin strap, and a helmet marked P alone is homologated closed only.

🟢 This one is marked P/J under ECE 22.06 — the current schedule, which tests more impact points at more speeds than 22.05 and adds a rotational assessment.

About the Future II hi-vis yellow graphic

Fluorescent pigment does something ordinary paint cannot. It absorbs ultraviolet, which your eye cannot detect at all, and re-emits that energy at a visible wavelength, so the surface returns more visible light than falls on it. That is why fluorescent yellow appears to glow rather than merely to be bright, and why it works hardest in exactly the conditions that supply plenty of UV and almost no contrast — heavy overcast, rain, dusk, the flat grey afternoons a touring rider cannot plan around. It also sits close to the wavelength the human eye is most sensitive to in daylight, which is why emergency services across Europe converged on it independently. 🔵 Two honest costs: it is unquestionably the loudest finish here and not to every taste, and fluorescent pigment fades under sustained UV over years — store it in a garage rather than a window, which on a carbon shell is good practice anyway.

Twin Visor, Pinlock 120 XLT and a tinted spare

🟢 What is in the box: the helmet, the fitted clear visor with the Pinlock 120 XLT insert, a complete tinted second visor, a breath deflector, and a backpack.

🔵 No intercom. The helmet is prepared for a Bluetooth system, which is a separate purchase.

Chin and crown intakes, channelled EPS

🔵 Airflow only happens if the air has somewhere lower in pressure to go, which is why the exhaust port matters as much as the intakes.

The vent covers are inside the ECE 22.06 approval, because the current standard tests a helmet with everything fitted that will be sold on it.

Metal buckle and the Emergency Release System

🔵 Check that the chin bar seats fully every time. A bar that is nearly closed is not closed, and the approval covers open and closed rather than anything in between.

🟢 The lock is central and single-handed; retention is a micrometric metal buckle with cheek-pad release tabs alongside it.

X-Static lining and everyday comfort

🔵 Comfort over four hours is decided by pressure distribution rather than softness. A lining that feels plush in the first minute often lacks support and produces a hot spot later.

Because the pads come out and swap individually, a pressure point here is usually fixable rather than fatal.

Carbon or composite — which Advant X to buy

🔵 A modular is heavier than a full-face and heavier than a jet, and buys versatility with that weight. On a touring helmet that is usually the right purchase.

This one weighs 1550 g, is homologated ECE 22.06 P/J in both positions, and holds no FIM homologation — no modular helmet does.

Care and replacement parts

🔵 Never repaint a helmet or apply solvent-based stickers to one. Paint solvents attack carbon lacquer and resin invisibly, and doing so voids the ECE approval.

Choose from the six finishes here instead. Wash the lining a few times a season in cool water, away from direct heat.

Specification

  • Model — LS2 FF901 Advant X Carbon
  • Part number — 569015654
  • Colour — Future II — Hi-vis yellow over carbon
  • Homologation — ECE 22.06, P/J dual homologation — approved closed and open
  • 🔴 Safety rating — none. SHARP lists an „ADVANT X" at 4 stars, but records it as composite fibre, 1.6 kg — the HPFC version, not this 6K carbon shell at 1550 g. Brand list checked in full: no „Advant X Carbon" or „FF901 Carbon" entry; Certimoov has none. The stars are deliberately not carried over
  • Helmet type — Flip-up touring — chin bar rotates 180° to the rear
  • Shell — 100 % carbon fibre, 6K weave, including the chin bar. 🔵 Two shell sizes only (XS–S–M–L / XL–2XL–3XL)
  • Impact liner — multi-density EPS with moulded ventilation channels
  • Weight — approx. 1550 g (±50 g). 🔵 The composite Advant X is 1600 g — carbon saves 50 g here
  • Sizes — XS to 3XL (seven sizes), no XXS. Prepared for Bluetooth intercom; no system supplied
  • Optics — Twin Visor System — main visor plus retracting sun visor
  • 🟢 Included — Pinlock® 120 MaxVision™ XLT, a complete tinted second visor and a backpack, plus a breath deflector
  • 🔴 Tinted visor — daylight only — most European jurisdictions bar tinted visors at night
  • Ventilation — chin and crown intakes, channelled multi-density EPS, rear exhaust port. 🔵 assessed from construction; no independent measurement exists
  • 🔴 Wind noise — left unrated — no measurement published. Reviewers generally find modulars louder than comparable full-faces at motorway speed; that is an impression, not data
  • Retention — micrometric metal buckle
  • Emergency access — Emergency Release System — tabs let responders withdraw the cheek pads first
  • Interior — X-Static® silver antibacterial lining on laser-cut foam; hypoallergenic, removable, washable. 🔵 the composite Advant X is not listed with X-Static
  • 🔴 FIM homologation — none — a road helmet; no modular is FIM-eligible
  • Serviceability — both visors, sun visor mechanism, cheek pads (several thicknesses), lining, vent covers, breath deflector
  • Replacement guidance — after about five years, and immediately after any impact — carbon can look undamaged over crushed EPS
