A ceiling is only met by something reaching for it. The 390 Duke has the largest engine on this element's fitment list and the most appetite for the top of its rev range, which makes it the machine here with the most opportunity to notice what a medium can pass. That is the reason to think twice about the T12 on this bike: at 560 litres per square metre per second against the P08's 5,050, it is the deepest reduction in passage Sprint Filter offers.
Key Features
- Dry polyester nonwoven, 7 µm of filtration at 560 l/m²/sec, made for extreme conditions
- About a ninth of the standard P08's rated passage per square metre of medium
- No filter oil at any point, so nothing can migrate onto the sensors of a modern single
- Straight swap for the paper panel in the untouched airbox; no fabrication, no remap
- Cleaned and reused for the life of the machine; two years of warranty from purchase
- Specified for dust and unsealed ground — a road 390 Duke is better served by the P08
The number that goes down
Almost everything sold for an intake is sold on a figure going up. This is sold on a figure going down, and honestly so: the finer the medium, the more it holds back and the less it lets through. There is no version of it in which both halves improve at once. Sprint Filter arranges its media along exactly that line, from the racing weave at 85 microns through the P08 at 80 and the P14 at 14 to this mat at 7.
What can be said, and what cannot
What cannot be said is how a nine-fold difference in rated passage translates into anything measurable on one particular 390 Duke. That depends on the area folded into this housing and how much air the engine draws through it, and no such curve is published. What can be said is the direction: the medium is more restrictive than the P08 by design, in return for arresting particles more than ten times smaller. What cannot be claimed either way is that a drop-in element adds power. It does not, here or anywhere, and on this A2-class single the ceiling belongs to the engine and its homologation rather than the airbox. The dependable benefit is duller — a restriction beginning below a paper panel's and recoverable by cleaning.
Care and cleaning
Because it is dry, the PM200T12 goes back into the bike in the session it came out. Direct compressed air at the clean face and work it outward across the mat; the dust leaves by the face that arrested it. Should the medium hold more than an air line will move, lukewarm water and a mild detergent take the remainder, rinsed until the water runs clean. After that it wants air, space and time — no heater, no hot-air gun, no flame — and it is fitted only once no dampness remains. The maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
The T12 for the KTM 390 Duke, 2017 to 2026, in the standard airbox in place of the original panel. Six machines are listed against this element, all from KTM's small-capacity family, and the same housing takes three other Sprint Filter media with longer lists. Match the code and the year — the Fitment tab has all six.
