Of the eight Multistradas that take this element, the 950 has the smallest engine standing behind it, and that changes the arithmetic of fitting a fine filter. What a medium passes is a property of the material; what an engine draws depends on how big it is and how hard it is worked. The 950 asks less of the airbox than any of its 1200 and 1260 relatives, so a restriction a bigger twin would notice has more room to disappear here. The Sprint Filter T12 PM127T12 is the finest thing the range offers: a dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns, drawn up for off-road use and extreme conditions.
Key Features
- Dry polyester special non-woven, filtering down to 7 microns
- Rated airflow of 560 l/m²/sec — the figure a medium this fine brings
- No oil anywhere in it, so nothing can be carried through to the throttle bodies
- Sits in the unmodified series airbox in the original element's place
- Around twice the filtering area of other performance elements
- Two years of warranty, counted from the day of purchase
The one in the family that can best afford it
Restriction is only felt where the demand for air is high enough to run into it. A litre-plus twin at full throttle is asking the intake for everything it has; the 950 on the same road is not, and that gap is where a fine medium lives more comfortably. That is no claim that the element is free here — it is not — but it is why the 950 is a more sensible candidate than the raw numbers suggest. If yours spends its summers on dry unsealed roads rather than in traffic, this is the version of the family where the case is easiest to make.
Seven microns, and the price of them
Finer means more retained and less passed; there is no arrangement in which both improve. The standard P08 weave filters at 80 microns with a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, while this non-woven filters at 7 microns and is rated at 560. That is roughly nine times less air through the same area of material — the largest step down in flow in the catalogue, deliberately so. It buys retention in air a road element was never specified for. This is no upgrade over the P08; it is the other end of the same trade, worth having only when the ground justifies it.
Care and cleaning
Servicing is done with air, not solvent: hold a line to the clean face and the dust is driven back out the way it came in. When a hard trip has left more behind than air alone will shift, wash the element in lukewarm water with a little mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. It then needs open air and patience — no heat gun, no hairdryer, no flame, all of which damage the medium — and it goes back in dry and unoiled. The maintenance sheet for the PM127T12 is filed under the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Ducati Multistrada 950 built from 2017 to 2021, replacing the original element in the standard airbox with nothing cut, spaced or remapped. Eight machines in the Multistrada family share this element, from the 1200 generation through to the 1260 Enduro and Pikes Peak. The complete list is in the Fitment tab.
