A woven filter and a fibre mat do not age in the same shape. A weave holds particles across its face, and its behaviour is dominated by how full that face is. A depth material such as the P14 catches through its thickness, and from the first kilometre to the last it moves in one direction only: what it holds back rises, what it passes falls, steadily, without a plateau in the middle where things settle down. That is either exactly what a rider wants or exactly what they do not — and on an NC750X the answer has less to do with the motorcycle than with whether the same road is under it every morning.

One direction, no plateau

That monotony is the material's defining property and it cuts both ways. It means the protection late in an interval is not the weak point people assume it to be. It also means the resistance late in an interval is never lower than it was early on, and there is no point at which the mat gives anything back. A weave can be blown clear and much of its face reopened; a depth mat gives up its load more grudgingly, because the load is inside it rather than on it.

Fixed route or varied route

That is why the choice belongs to the road. A rider covering the same dusty commute daily is buying finer capture on every one of those days, which is a good bargain at 1,800 l/m²/sec against the standard weave's 5,050. A rider whose week is mostly clean tarmac with an occasional gravel car park is paying the same rate for a benefit that turns up occasionally. Neither material is better; they answer different questions. And neither adds power — a drop-in element does not make a standard NC750X quicker, whatever the cloth.

Care and cleaning

Work with compressed air from the clean side outward, so the load is pushed back out of the mat and not deeper into it. Where air has stopped being enough, lukewarm water with a mild detergent will clear the PM215P14; rinse until the water runs clean. Drying happens in open moving air and cannot be hurried with a heat gun, a radiator or a flame, and the element is refitted dry with nothing applied to it. The care sheet is in the Downloads tab.
