Nothing about this element has to be a permanent decision. The airbox of the GSX-8TT is the same housing that serves the rest of the family, and reaching it means a seat and a few fasteners — so the choice of medium can be made per weekend instead of once, at the counter. Bought as a second element alongside the standard P08 rather than as a replacement for it, the Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 stops being a compromise at all: 15,000 litres per square metre per second through an 85 micron weave for the track day, and the 80 micron P08 with its 5,050 back in the housing for Monday morning. The more open cloth then only ever sees the kind of use it was picked for.
Key Features
- Racing weave rated 85 microns, flowing 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Openly more open than the 80 micron P08 and its 5,050 l/m²/sec — best kept for track use
- Identical fitment to the standard element, so an exchange is a few minutes of work
- Dry by construction: no film to dose, nothing that can travel onto the intake sensors
- Both elements are cleaned with air and stored dry — neither is a throwaway part
- Two years of warranty, running from the date on the invoice
Two elements, one housing
Running a pair is simpler than it sounds. Mark them so they cannot be confused, and make the swap part of the routine before and after an event. Each time one comes out, hold it to the light and look at the weave; each time one goes in, check that it seats squarely all the way round, because a badly seated element lets air past the seal, and no medium can filter that. Keep the spare flat and dry in a closed box. The arrangement also settles the awkward part of the specification: nobody has to accept a wider gate across a whole road season in order to have the racing medium ready for a handful of track days.
Which element for which air
The range is a set of trades, not a ranking, because every micron of tightening costs flow. This one is the racing end: 85 microns, 15,000 l/m²/sec. The P08 sits at 80 microns and 5,050 as the road and track default. The P037 filters to 37 microns at 4,500 and repels water. The P14 goes to 14 microns and 1,800 for dust, the T12 to 7 microns and 560 for extreme ground. If only one element goes into the 8TT and the bike is mostly ridden on the road, it should be the P08 — the F1-85 is the addition, and it adds up on an engine opened by running hours.
Care and cleaning
Both elements get the same treatment, and the SM245S F1-85 is no exception: compressed air applied to the clean face, driving the dirt back out the way it arrived. A wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent handles what air leaves behind, rinsed until the water runs clear. Dry it thoroughly in moving air, never with heat and never over a flame, and put it back dry. No oil, at any stage. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
