The Exclusive was listed for four seasons, the shortest run of the four K 1600 variants sharing this airbox, and machines like that tend to be kept rather than used up: modest annual distance, covered storage, a folder of receipts that travels with the bike. It is worth stating here in particular, because PM187S F1-85 is the dearest element listed for this housing and that pattern describes the rider least likely to reach its ceiling.
Key Features
- The most open cloth Sprint Filter weaves: dry polyester at 85 microns, never oiled
- Flow rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the standard element
- Quoted at 95.22 per cent retention on 100-micron test particles
- Filtering area roughly twice that of an ordinary performance element
- Fits the series K 1600 airbox directly, with no modification to the housing
- Serviced with compressed air, two-year warranty, life-of-machine specification
Capacity nobody draws on
The racing weave's case is a rated 15,000 l/m²/sec, and a rating is only worth its price to an engine that calls for it. A garaged Exclusive ridden gently on summer weekends calls for a fraction of what the standard 5,050 weave already delivers, and the gap between the two figures is never visible from the saddle — not in throttle response, not in noise, not in consumption. The summary is short: the element works exactly as specified, and the specification is beside the point here. An air filter fitted inside an unmodified airbox does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and paying more for one does not change that.
The part of the file that keeps its meaning
What does travel with a carefully kept machine is that its air filter was never a paper panel binned at a service. A dry polyester element is cleaned with compressed air and refitted, is specified to last as long as the motorcycle, carries two years of warranty and offers roughly twice the filtering surface of a typical performance panel. All of that is equally true of the standard P08 for this airbox, at a fraction of the outlay. If the F1-85 goes in, it should be because someone can name a use for 85 microns and 15,000 l/m²/sec, not because it heads the list.
Care and cleaning
Storage is part of the care on a machine that spends months indoors. If the PM187S F1-85 is going into the winter dirty, clean it before rather than after: compressed air from the clean face outward, then, if a film remains, lukewarm water with mild detergent and a rinse until the water stays clear. It has to be dry before it goes back, and drying happens in moving air alone — no heater, no oven, no flame, since heat is what ruins polyester. It is refitted unoiled. The maintenance sheet is under the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the BMW K 1600 GTL Exclusive of 2013 to 2016, dropping straight into the standard airbox. Of the four K 1600 listings it is the shortest, and it falls wholly within the GTL's own years — one reason the part number never splits across this range. All four machines appear with their spans in the Fitment tab.
