It is a reasonable instinct to look for the R version of a part when there is an R on the tank. There is no R version of this element. Sprint Filter lists the same code against the 990 Duke and the 990 Duke R, and if the R designation reached the intake there would be a second code, because that is how a parts catalogue works. Filters in this range are graded by medium instead — P08, P14, T12, F1-85 — and a medium is chosen by the air it has to deal with, not by the specification level of the chassis in front of it.
Key Features
- One element for the 990 Duke and the 990 Duke R; the housing is common to both
- Rated 80 µm, with flow measured at 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Dry woven polyester, oiled at no point, washed instead of thrown away
- Roughly twice the working surface of a usual performance element
- Slots into the unmodified series airbox in place of the original panel
- Warranted for two years from purchase and made to outlast the service schedule
Grades that mean something, and grades that do not
Trim letters are a useful shorthand for a motorcycle and a misleading one for a component. On the machine, R generally announces harder equipment somewhere in the chassis. On a filter there is no equivalent axis to move along: an element is defined by the medium it is made from and the housing it fits, and neither of those two things has anything to say about brake calipers or suspension. The evidence here is the catalogue itself — one code, one housing, one set of model years, two motorcycles.
What does decide the choice
The air, and only the air. Where the riding is dusty there is a finer nonwoven; where it is genuinely extreme there is a finer one again; both cost flow to buy the retention, and that is a trade rather than a ranking. The P08 is the general-purpose position between them. What it does not do is make a standard 990 Duke R quicker, and no element dropped into a standard airbox ever has. Its case is that the intake resistance starts low and, being washable, comes back to low rather than climbing quietly across the year.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does nearly all of the work: apply it to the clean side and drive the load back out through the face that collected it. Once or twice in a long life the PM175S will want more than that, and then it is lukewarm water with a little mild detergent, rinsed until the run-off is clear. It dries in moving air at its own pace, never with heat and never over a flame, and it is refitted dry and with nothing applied to it. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
The P08 element for the KTM 990 Duke R, 2024 to 2026, in the standard airbox in place of the original. Five machines share this code across the 790, 890 and 990 families. Because the name on the tank is not enough to identify a fitment here, order by element code and model year; the list is in the Fitment tab.
