Across the years a motorcycle is kept, its air filter usually amounts to a small stack of discarded paper panels and the invoices that came with them. This element breaks the habit. The same piece goes back into the housing after every service, cleaned instead of thrown out, and Sprint Filter specifies it for the working life of the motorcycle. On the Vitpilen 401 from 2024 that piece is PM293S, and it drops into the standard airbox on the factory mounting.

Reusable counts for nothing unless it is reused

A washable element saves you nothing while it sits unopened in the housing. The workable answer is to hang the job on something already in the diary rather than on good intentions: the annual service, a tyre change, the weekend the bike goes away for winter. Compressed air takes minutes and consumes nothing, which is precisely what lets the habit survive a busy year. A paper panel gets inspected and then bought; this one gets inspected and then put back where it was.

What it changes and what it leaves alone

Fitting one will not add power to a standard bike, and the Vitpilen's single is no exception to that. Two things do shift. Restriction across the element starts lower, and because a dry weave is restored rather than progressively blinded, it stays near that figure until the next time the housing is opened. The second is that servicing stops consuming parts altogether: no panel is scrapped, no filter oil is bought, and the standard airbox is left exactly as Husqvarna built it.

Care and cleaning

The routine is compressed air, directed from the clean face outward. Where more is needed, give the element a bath in hand-hot water with mild detergent and rinse it until nothing discolours the water. Let it dry in open air — no hairdryer, no heat gun, no flame — and put it back only when it is dry through. No oil is used at any point in the process.
