The usual alternative to a paper panel is oiled cotton, and it is worth saying plainly why the Sprint Filter P08 in the CFMOTO CL-X 300 is not that. Oiled gauze depends on a coating: it has to be washed out, dried, re-oiled and left to spread before the element goes back in, and how well it filters depends on whether all of that was done properly. The P08 carries no coating at all. It is dry cloth, and it behaves the same on its tenth cleaning as on its first.

Why the coating is left out

An oiled element has to be maintained correctly to filter correctly, and that is a real condition rather than a detail. Too little oil and the gauze passes what it ought to hold; too much and it can travel forward with the intake air towards components never meant to receive it. On a fuel-injected machine with sensors reading downstream of the box, that is a risk accepted for no return. A dry weave has no such failure mode: nothing to apply incorrectly, nothing to move. It shortens the job as well — clean, dry, refit, with no oil to wait on.

Reading the filtration figures

Sprint Filter's comparison gives the P08 93.13 per cent retention on 100-micron particles, where four-layer oiled cotton reaches 76.42 per cent. Both are proportions, because no filter is a wall. The rest of the range moves the other way: finer media catch more and flow less, which is a trade rather than a ranking. And a caution against reading too much into any of it — a drop-in filter does not make a standard CL-X 300 noticeably stronger. It keeps the intake in a known state, which is a different and far more modest claim.

Care and cleaning

Direct compressed air at the clean side and let it push the dirt back out through the face that collected it. Where dust has combined with oil mist into a film, warm water with a little mild detergent will break it up; rinse it out completely. Drying is the step that needs patience: air only, at room temperature, for as long as it takes. No heat gun, no radiator, no flame, and nothing goes back into the airbox damp.
