DescriptionThe whole story▼
Gloss grey is the neutral that is not black, and on a helmet worn every day that distinction is worth more than it sounds. It is the finish in this range that asks the least of you over several years.
What an open-face helmet does and does not do
🔵 Two things are true at once and both belong here. The Cosmo SV is among the best-equipped demi-jets available at any price. And it offers no chin or jaw protection whatsoever, because the category it is certified in does not include any.
Buy it for town and short journeys. For anything faster, a full-face is the right tool.
About the Arrow C2 finish
Value rather than colour decides both how dirty a helmet looks and how easily it is seen, and a mid grey sits at the useful point on that scale for both at once. Road film, dust and dried rain marks all show least here — they read as haze on black and as obvious marks on white. And a driver's eye resolves a mid-value object against dark tarmac appreciably faster than a dark one. Neither property is dramatic alone; together they make this the version that needs the least attention. 🔵 It is also the finish that shows the colour-matched vent pieces most clearly, which on this shell is a genuine design detail.
HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT
What you are buying structurally: a HIRP thermoplastic shell, a polystyrene impact liner, and dual ECE 22.06 / DOT homologation — with MT stating the design surpasses the European standard even with accessories fitted.
🔵 No independent test of any kind exists for this model.
MT-ESP — a full-coverage sun visor on a jet
Two screens in front of your eyes on an open-face helmet is unusual: the extended MT-V-37 main visor, and the full-coverage MT-ESP sun shield behind it.
🔵 Between them there is no light condition on a European road that needs a visor change — which on a jet with no Pinlock option is the practical answer to changing conditions.
The MT-V-37 visor and the patented MT-QVSS
MT-QVSS is patented, and the patent is the point: a genuinely tool-free visor change is harder to engineer than it sounds, because the mechanism has to hold the visor securely at speed and release it by hand.
🔵 The MT-V-37 extended visor is what it holds, and there is no Pinlock option for it.
Active ventilation and the removable rear deflector
The complete ventilation specification: front intakes, a rear exhaust, colour-matched vent pieces, and a tool-free removable rear deflector for tuning airflow against noise.
🔵 No independent test has measured any of it. On an open-face the face opening dominates in any case.
The MT-Micrometric+ closure
A closure is the least glamorous part of a helmet and the one that has to work every single time. MT-Micrometric+ is a micrometric ratchet specified to engage at least two teeth — quick, precise and glove-friendly.
🔵 It needs its adjustment checked every few months, which a double-D ring does not.
Interior, fit and intercom preparation
Seven sizes from XS to 3XL is a genuinely wide range for an open-face, and the 3XL in particular is hard to find in this class at any price.
🔵 The lining is fully removable and washable across the whole range.
🔵 Intercom provision on a demi-jet is not a given, and it is one of the features that lifts the Cosmo SV above its class — alongside the full-coverage sun shield, the patented visor system and the removable rear deflector.
The UCS MT-Rider Sync system itself is bought separately.
The weight figure, and the rest of the honest list
🔵 Buy this helmet for what it does rather than for what it weighs, because the weight figure is the one specification here that is genuinely uncertain. MT publishes 1.5 kg and aggregated listings suggest around 1350 g.
What is not uncertain: dual ECE 22.06 and DOT homologation, and no chin bar.
Where it sits in MT's range
🔵 At 106 € the Cosmo SV is not the cheapest jet MT makes but it is the most complete. The features that justify the gap are the full-coverage sun shield, the patented visor system, the removable deflector and the second homologation.
Whether those are worth 60 € over the Viale SV S depends entirely on how much you ride it.
When something wears out
Washing the lining is the single most effective maintenance you can do, and on a jet it needs doing more often — the padding is exposed to road dust as well as sweat.
🔵 When washing is no longer enough, complete replacement linings and cheek pads are available.
