DescriptionThe whole story▼
Gang Mat carries the same pixel-camouflage pattern as its white sibling, here on a matte black base with a thin red pinstripe tracing through the graphic — the darkest, most understated version of the Gang design. As with every OXO decor, the pattern sits on top of a shell that does its real work at the chin: two release catches, a bar that rotates back to the crown, and one helmet that's certified for both the closed and the open position.
What the shell looks like in this decor
Against the black matte base, the grey pixel pattern reads as anthracite rather than a lighter tone, and a fine red line traces through several panels clearly enough to count as its own accent colour, not just the helmet's usual small red release-button hardware. Silver micro-highlights sit within the pattern the same way they do on the white Gang, just less prominent against the darker base underneath them.
From closed to open in one motion
Release the two catches at the chin and the OXO's entire lower bar rotates up and back, locking flat against the crown in a single continuous motion. Nothing is unclipped, removed or carried separately — the shell you were riding closed a moment ago is the same shell, mechanically and structurally, once it's open. That's the defining feature of a Flip-Back helmet, and the reason it isn't accurate to describe the OXO as an open-face or jet design.
Full-face rules, jet rules, one certificate
Shark states the OXO's approval covers both riding positions under ECE 22.06 — P for the closed, full-face configuration, J for the open one. That standard itself, mandatory EU-wide since 2024, is a considerable step up from its predecessor: eighteen impact zones against five, multiple impact speeds, an oblique-impact anvil test, and a rotational Brain Injury Criterion the older 22.05 standard didn't test for at all.
Two moulds, matched visors
The OXO's size range isn't one shell stretched with foam — Shark tools two separate shells, and every visor tint made for this helmet exists as two parts because of it: a small-shell version and a large-shell version, each with its own number on the price list. Riders moving between an OXO in a small size and one in a large size are, in this one respect, dealing with two different helmets.
A number that changes with the shell
Shark's 1,660 g figure for the OXO is specific to the smallest shell size the helmet comes in, and it climbs from there. SHARP's own independent weighing landed near 1.7 kg; MotorcycleNews weighed their test unit at 1,880 g, a real 200-plus-gram difference from Shark's own number. Weight like this compounds over a ride — it's carried, not just quoted.
Price, with real company either side
Rather than stating a price and moving on, here's this OXO set against the nearest genuine neighbours in Shark's own 2027 line:
| Model | Configuration |
|---|---|
| Shark Spartan RS Fibre Dark Shadow Mat | Full-Face |
| This OXO decor | Flip-Up, full-face and jet |
| Shark Spartan RS Carbon Skin, visor in the box | Full-Face |
Reading the ventilation and noise claims carefully
Two vents, chin and brow, both simple switches with no adjustable stages, are what's actually documented for the OXO — nothing is published about exhaust venting, so nothing is claimed about it. On noise, independent sources report no issues in open-configuration town riding and generally expect a quiet helmet, with one flagging that earlier Shark modular designs weren't always quiet at motorway speed. No decibel figure exists in either source, so none is used here.
Factory visor and aftermarket tints, rated correctly
The OXO's factory visor is clear, approved for all users, and comes with a Pinlock 70 insert, adjustable tension, and an anti-scratch coating. From there, Shark's VZ390 range adds a daytime-only TE50 light tint and five Iridium finishes — blue, gold, silver, red, rainbow — each stamped racing use only. No optical class is published for VZ390, a gap that stays a gap here rather than a guess.
Sun visor, intercom, and the rest
An internal drop-down sun visor, an intercom-ready shell, a tool-free visor mechanism, and a glasses groove — SHARP and Shark agree on all four for the OXO. Neither source confirms whether the removable liner is washable or details available pad sizes, so this text leaves both as open questions. SHARP's independent rating, four stars, dates from May 2025.
Who this decor suits
The matte black Gang, with its thin red pinstripe, stays in the same Touring and Street bracket as the white version — darker and quieter, but built around the identical practical case: opening the chin bar for a fuel stop or a slow queue without removing the whole helmet, useful on long or mixed-pace days rather than a single fast loop.
Fit varies with the shell, not just the size
Splitting the OXO's six sizes across two shells means fit isn't a single, smooth curve — it can genuinely shift at the point where the shell changes. An independent reviewer's account describes the interior as leaning oval, and personally too oval for their own head shape; a subjective, first-hand finding rather than a manufacturer figure, but real enough to weigh before buying.
What Shark actually stocks for this helmet
Shark's official visor range for the OXO runs to sixteen tints — clear, TE50 light, five Iridium colours — and every tint is stocked in both a small-shell and large-shell version. The Pinlock 70 insert is the same story, with its own confirmed two-part split in the range book's cross-reference table.
The gaps this description won't paper over
No MIPS rotational-impact system, no EQRS emergency-release pads, and no independently measured noise figure for the OXO in either configuration. SHARP's four-star result, dated May 2025, is genuine but is a single test, not an unconditional promise. Exhaust-vent count isn't published. And an independent reviewer's own account found the internal shape too oval for their head. Worth reading in full before ordering.
What's covered, and what's included from day one
Five years of warranty cover the OXO, with spare parts genuinely available rather than promised and then discontinued. The helmet itself ships complete: clear VZ390 visor fitted, Pinlock 70 insert included, internal sun visor built in and usable immediately.
