DescriptionThe whole story▼

Cyberg is the most contemporary-looking finish in the range — purple, cyan and pink in the digital palette that has been everywhere for a decade — and it is one of the more effective on the road for reasons that have nothing to do with fashion.

1350 grams, and why that is the headline

🔵 A rule of thumb worth carrying: for every 100 g of helmet weight, the load through your neck rises by roughly the same again once road inputs are counted. That is why the numbers matter more than they look.

1350 g ±50 g on this one.

HPTT shell, three shell sizes and ECE 22.06

🔵 One consequence of 22.06 that riders noticed: helmets got a little heavier across the industry. More impact points at more speeds, plus an oblique test, generally means more material.

The Rapid III's 1350 g is a 22.06-era figure, not a legacy one.

No independent safety rating — and the trap that goes with it

🔵 It would be easy to write „meets the strictest safety standards" here and leave it. The accurate version is that the Rapid III meets ECE 22.06, which is the requirement for legal sale, and has not been independently rated by anyone.

The 2 stars you may find belong to the FF353 Rapid.

About the Cyberg graphic

Cyan is the interesting colour here. It is close to the peak of the eye's sensitivity in low light, which is the opposite of the daylight peak that makes fluorescent yellow work, and it means this helmet holds its presence at dusk better than most coloured finishes do. Add purple and pink, neither of which appears anywhere in vehicle paint, roadside furniture or signage, and you have a helmet that separates from its background by being categorically unlike it — the conspicuity mechanism that operates independently of brightness. It is a serious property arriving in an unserious-looking package. 🔵 Two caveats. Purple and cyan pigments are both more UV-sensitive than the inorganic colours, so store it out of direct sunlight. And this is a strongly of-its-moment look, which may or may not be what you want in five years. A comparison worth making before you commit: Cyberg and Lycant are the two finishes here built entirely from colours that do not occur in traffic, and they work by the same mechanism. Cyberg is the more contemporary of the two and the better in low light thanks to the cyan; Lycant is the more unusual. Both cost the same and both do the same job.

What this helmet does not have: an internal sun visor

🔵 If you already own sunglasses you like riding in, the missing shield is a smaller problem than it sounds — the aperture on this helmet takes them without much fuss.

If you do not, budget for either sunglasses or a tinted spare visor on top of the helmet price.

Chin and top intakes, channelled EPS

Chin intake, top intake, channels through the liner, exhausts at the rear. That is a complete and conventional ventilation path, executed properly at this price.

🔵 No independent test of its performance has been published.

Anti-fog — prepared for, not supplied

🔵 Two accessories are worth buying with this helmet rather than later: an anti-fog insert, and either sunglasses or a tinted visor, since there is no internal sun shield.

Neither is in the box; both are inexpensive.

Lining, closure and everyday comfort

🔵 The comfort assessment on this page is 3 of 5, and here is the reasoning: a washable hypoallergenic lining and a chin curtain are present, but there is no branded wicking fabric, no magnetic deflector and no internal sun visor.

It is a construction judgement from the specification, not a measurement.

Where it sits in LS2's range

🔵 Buying for someone else? The four solid finishes are the safe choice and the cheapest, and they protect identically to the graphics.

Size matters far more than colour — measure them rather than guessing.

Care and replacement parts

🔵 A mid-priced helmet is designed to be replaced rather than restored. Spend the effort on the visor and the lining, keep it out of the sun, and replace it after five years or one impact.

Both are considerably cheaper than the alternative.

In the box

  • LS2 FF820 Rapid III helmet — Cyberg, Purple, cyan and pink (HPTT shell)
  • Clear outer visor, fitted
  • Chin curtain, fitted and removable
  • Breath deflector, fitted and removable
  • 🔵 No internal sun visor — this model does not have one
  • 🔵 No Pinlock insert — the visor is prepared for a Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™, which is sold separately
  • 🔵 No second visor and no intercom — both are separate purchases

Size guide

🔵 Fit is a safety specification, not only a comfort one. It is the single variable here that you control and that no rating would account for even if this helmet had one.

Measure at the widest part of your head and buy on the snug side.

Specification

  • Model — LS2 FF820 Rapid III
  • Part number — 168201074
  • Colour — Cyberg — Purple, cyan and pink
  • Homologation — ECE 22.06
  • 🔴 Safety rating — none. SHARP has no entry for the FF820, Rapid III or Rapid 3 (brand list checked directly). The 2-star result under „FF353 Rapid" belongs to the previous-generation helmet — different shell, different standard — and is deliberately not carried over. No ADAC or Certimoov result either
  • Shell — HPTT injection-moulded thermoplastic; three shell sizes (2XS–S / M–L / XL–3XL)
  • Weight — approx. 1350 g (±50 g), mid-size shell without accessories
  • Sizes — 2XS to 3XL (eight sizes)
  • 🔴 Sun visor — none. This helmet has no drop-down internal shield — unlike LS2's FF808 Stream II, FF811 Vector II and FF817 Challenger II. It is most of the reason it weighs 1350 g
  • Visor — clear outer visor, scratch-resistant, tool-free change
  • 🔴 Anti-fog — prepared for Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™ — the insert is NOT included. The pins are fitted; the lens is a separate purchase
  • Ventilation — chin and top intakes feeding channelled EPS, with rear exhausts — two intake paths, one more than the FF817. 🔵 Assessed from the published construction; no independent airflow measurement exists
  • 🔴 Wind noise — left unrated — no independent measurement is published for this model
  • Retention — ratchet buckle
  • Interior — hypoallergenic, antibacterial, fully removable and washable. 🔵 No branded wicking fabric (no COOLMAX or X-Static) and no magnetic wind deflector — both appear further up LS2's range
  • Included — chin curtain and breath deflector, both fitted and removable
  • 🔴 FIM homologation — none — a road helmet, not eligible for FIM-sanctioned competition
  • Serviceability — visors, cheek pads in several thicknesses, complete lining, chin curtain, breath deflector and vent covers all available separately
  • Replacement guidance — after about five years regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
