DescriptionThe whole story▼

Eric Granado, born in Sao Paulo in 1996, won the FIM CEV Moto2 European Championship in 2017 and went on to race in the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup — a Brazilian rider whose helmet graphics have carried his country's colours across several Shark decors. This one sets a matte dark-blue base against a green and neon-yellow topographic swirl pattern, with the number 51 and Zero Racing branding worked into the design, rather than a literal print of the Brazilian flag: the colours are there, the flag itself is not.

The spoiler behind the graphic

Beneath the topographic graphic sits a fin Shark developed and wind-tunnel tested for this exact open-face shape, addressing a problem full-face helmets do not have to solve in the same way: with no sealed chin bar up front, air spilling off the back of an open shell needs somewhere organised to go, or it drags at the rider's neck through fast sections. Reducing that drag and buffeting is the real function underneath this replica's racing-derived look, not a claim made by the graphic alone.

Shell and closure

Lexan polycarbonate, two separate shell sizes (XS-M and L-XXL, per independent press coverage of this model), closed with a micrometric buckle rather than the double-D ring on the full-face Skwal Cup.

What ECE 22.06 actually tests, on an open face

The certification stamped into this shell is ECE 22.06, which became mandatory for newly homologated EU-market helmets in January 2024 and replaced the older 22.05 standard with a genuinely tougher test, not a paperwork update. Impact points went from five to eighteen, tested across a range of speeds instead of a single one. An oblique-impact test against an abrasive anvil was added, loading the shell with twisting rather than straight-line force, and a Brain Injury Criterion now scores rotational energy on top of ordinary linear deceleration. Testing includes the visor, Pinlock and any fitted comms unit. The Norme code reads 2206, with no FIM suffix attached.

1,430 g over a full ride

Shark's quoted figure is 1,430 g (+/-50 g) for the smaller of the two shell sizes, unaffected by the graphic. Every gram of that sits above the head's own weight and is felt through every head movement across a ride, not just once in an impact.

Ventilation

Two intakes at the front feed air in, two extractors at the back let it out, and the whole path runs directly because there is no chin bar in the way. That is deliberately basic: an open-face helmet's own geometry already handles most of the cooling a rider needs, without extra vent stages.

Visor and Pinlock

Side-locking, Optical Class 1, anti-scratch treated, with a vortex generator at the edge: that is the VZ670 visor shared across this helmet, the plain Skwal Jet and the LED-equipped Skwal i3 Jet. A Max Vision Pinlock 70 insert is pre-fitted with adjustable tension rather than sold as an extra. Clear is the only tint road-legal for every rider — Shark's iridium and dark-smoke tints for this shell are racing use only.

Sun visor and everyday use

A built-in sun visor lowers on its own mechanism, and the interior is cut generously enough for glasses arms to sit without pressure at the temple. This helmet is specified by Shark as SENA intercom compatible.

Fit: what six sizes across two shells means

XS through XXL split across two shells — smaller for XS-M, larger for L-XXL — six sizes total. This is the detail that keeps a small-headed rider in a proportionate helmet rather than a big shell with thicker padding, and it is a large part of why the weight stays reasonable through most of the range.

Wind noise, honestly

This shell is, by construction, louder at speed than a full-face helmet — the open front and the visor's proximity to the jaw see to that, regardless of the spoiler's own aerodynamic work. The spoiler and the visor's vortex generator both reduce turbulence without eliminating it. No decibel figure has been published for this model, and none is invented here.

Price ladder

The same price as the other named-rider replicas in this range — Zarco, Redding and the Suzuka decor all share this top price point.

Skwal Jet same VZ670 visor family, no rear spoiler
Skwal Jet Cup this helmet
Skwal Cup same spoiler and CFD-developed shell, full-face
Skwal i3 Jet open face, adds an LED brake light this helmet does not have

Spares

The visor this helmet ships with is a shared part, stocked by Shark for the plain Skwal Jet and the Skwal i3 Jet as well, all three using the VZ67005PINCTU Pinlock 70 insert.

What this helmet does not protect

Be clear about what an open face means here: no chin bar, no equivalent structure over the jaw for the kind of impact a full-face's chin section would absorb. The ECE 22.06 rating above covers the shell, the retention system and the visor as fitted — not coverage that the design deliberately omits. That is the trade a jet helmet makes, and it is one worth making with full knowledge of it.

About the graphic

The topographic green-and-neon-yellow swirl reads as a designed pattern — wave-like contour lines rather than a photographic or literal print — laid over the matte dark-blue base, with the number 51 and the Zero Racing wordmark anchoring the side panel. The neon yellow is genuinely bright rather than a standard warm yellow, confirmed against the product photography rather than assumed from the name alone.

Who this decor suits

Granado's decor suits a rider drawn to a specific competitor's story — a European Moto2 championship, a move into electric-class MotoE racing — rather than a generic racing graphic, and the Brazil-referencing colour palette gives it a distinct identity from the other replicas in this range without spelling the connection out literally. The topographic pattern also gives this decor a texture other replicas in the range do not have — most of the graphics here rely on flat colour blocks or geometric shapes, while Granado's swirl reads as a genuinely designed surface even from a few metres away. Riders who already own a full-face Skwal Cup in a Granado colourway have a genuine open-face match available here, rather than having to settle for the closest available decor in a different graphic family.
