An unfaired motorcycle draws its air from the place the rider is sitting in. After a long summer ride on a Tuono V4 the visor carries a visible film — pollen, mineral dust off the verges, brake and tyre particulate, whatever the traffic ahead lifted off the surface — and that film is a fair stand-in for what the airbox is being asked to hold a few centimetres lower down. PM01P14 is the element for riders whose visor tells that story most weekends: a dry nonwoven rated at 14 µm, specified for the load rather than for the last part of the rev range.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven rated at 14 µm, the dusty-conditions step offered for this airbox
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec — the other half of the exchange, worth knowing before ordering
- Holds no oil and needs none, so nothing can travel downstream onto the sensors
- Around twice the working area of a typical performance element in the same space
- Takes the place of the factory panel inside the series airbox, without cutting and without a remap
- Regenerated and refitted many times over, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
The air a naked bike lives in
A fairing does not filter anything, but it does change where the intake takes its sample from. Without one, the Tuono meets the road film head on, and the fraction that matters here is the part small enough to stay airborne at riding speed: it does not settle out of the stream, it follows the stream into the housing. A closer medium is a direct response to that fraction. It is also the reason the finer cloth is worth its cost on a machine ridden in summer traffic and rather less so on one that only comes out for early Sunday mornings on clean roads.
What the closer weave will not do
It will not make the motorcycle faster. An element sitting in an unaltered airbox on a series Tuono leaves the engine making what the factory certified it to make, and any description that promises otherwise is selling something the part does not contain. What it does deliver is an intake resistance that starts low and returns to that value every time the panel is cleaned, instead of climbing quietly between replacements. Finer means more held back and less passed through — one exchange, made deliberately, not a step up a ladder.
Care and cleaning
PM01P14 is serviced with compressed air directed from the clean side outward, so the load leaves by the face it entered. Where the dust has been fine and persistent, lukewarm water with a mild detergent finishes the job; rinse it out and let the panel dry right through in moving air. Heat is the one thing to keep away from it — no hot air gun, no radiator, no flame — and it is refitted dry, with nothing sprayed on it. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
