Most MSX125s on this listing are recent machines, and a good number of them are still inside their factory warranty. That changes which question matters first. Before anything about microns and litres, an owner in that position wants to know whether the part leaves a mark: whether anything is cut, drilled, rerouted or reprogrammed, and whether the original can go back. For SM224S F1-85 the answer is that nothing is altered. Reversible, and worth keeping that way

Reversibility is not only a warranty argument; it is what makes a medium choice something other than a commitment. The standard SM224S and the finer SM224P14 use the same housing, so an owner who finds the racing cloth is the wrong end of the range for their riding is a few screws away from the right one. Keep the original panel rather than discarding it, note the change in the service record, and the intake stays a documented, undoable state instead of a mystery for whoever owns the bike next.

What the racing cloth actually does

It passes more air and holds back less: 15,000 l/m²/sec at 85 µm, against 5,050 at 80 µm for the standard element in the same box. That is one exchange with two directions and no ranking hidden inside it. On a 125 the flow side of it is largely theoretical, because the engine cannot ask for what it does not have the capacity to use, while the aperture side applies every hour the element is fitted. Fitting it makes sense where a machine is used competitively and inspected on an hours-based schedule. It does not make a standard MSX125 stronger, and this description will not suggest that it does.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air from the clean side outward is the routine for SM224S F1-85, so the load leaves through the surface that trapped it. Heavier deposits come out in hand-warm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until clear.
