The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
The RVS #1 was built in very small numbers and is used accordingly. Most will cover in a year what a commuting Brutale covers in a month, and that changes which clock the maintenance runs on. A service schedule counts kilometres; an air filter discarded at fixed intervals therefore goes in the bin by the calendar, in near-new condition, because the interval expired rather than the part.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave, never oiled and never needing to be re-oiled
- Roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance filters
- Aperture 80 µm, rated throughput 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Drops straight into the factory airbox; no modification, no remap
- Cleaned with compressed air and refitted, indefinitely
- Designed to last as long as the motorcycle, guaranteed two years from purchase
The clock a low-mileage bike runs on
Nothing about a stored motorcycle is truly idle. Fuel ages, tyres harden, and an airbox spends the winter breathing the humidity of whatever building it stands in. A filter, though, is one of the few consumables where standing still genuinely costs nothing: a woven polyester element has no adhesive film to dry out, no oil to separate, and no pleat that softens with damp. It comes out in spring, gets an air line held to it, and goes back at the specification it had in autumn. On a machine that is ridden rarely, that is the entire maintenance story.
What it is honestly for
Not power. An element that drops into an unmodified airbox does not make a standard engine measurably stronger, and an RVS owner is not the person to sell that story to. What it offers is a lower intake restriction that does not creep upwards between services, plus a part that never has to be sourced again for a motorcycle built in very small numbers. The bike keeps its original specification, and the MV panel it replaces can be labelled and set on a shelf.
Care and cleaning
Take the element out, hold it so the clean side faces the air line, and blow outwards until the weave is clear. That covers almost every service. If more is needed, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will do it, with rinsing continued until the water runs clean, and then it must dry fully in air. Heat is the one prohibition worth repeating: no flame, no heat gun, no oven, no radiator. Refit dry and leave it untreated. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet can be found in the Downloads tab.
