The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Eleven MV Agusta triples share this part number, and the Brutale 675 has the smallest engine among them. That is worth knowing before buying, because a filter element is drawn around an airbox rather than around a capacity figure: MV kept the same housing when the 675 grew into the 798 cc series, so the cloth that serves a Dragster RR at full throttle is the same cloth that serves this bike. On the 675 the ratio of filtering surface to demand is the most generous on the whole list.
Key Features
- Single-layer woven polyester, run dry — no oil is applied at any stage
- An 80 µm aperture rated at 5,050 litres per square metre per second
- Threads from ø 22 microns; a calibrated weave rather than a mat pressed from pulp
- Around twice the filtering area of other performance elements, inside the factory outline
- Drops into the series airbox: nothing trimmed, nothing rewired, no remap
- Cleaned and refitted instead of replaced, and guaranteed two years from purchase
Surplus area, and what it buys
Extra area raises no peak figure. What it changes is how quickly the element uses itself up. Dirt arrives per square centimetre, so spreading a given load over roughly twice the cloth keeps every part of it further from the point where pressure drop begins to climb. On the smallest engine of the eleven that margin is at its widest, which in practice means longer between the occasions when the box has to come apart — not a faster motorcycle. An insert element does not make a standard machine noticeably quicker, and this one is not sold on that claim.
A part that outlived the model
MV finished with the 675 Brutale in 2015. CM135S did not finish with it: the same element goes into machines still leaving the factory, which is why it stays an ordinary stock item instead of a search. For the owner of a discontinued model that is the practical argument, because the consumable hardest to find in ten years is always the one made for a single bike, and this is not one of those.
Care and cleaning
Servicing is an air line, not a shopping list. Hold the clean face towards compressed air and blow outwards, so whatever the weave caught leaves by the route it arrived. Should a wet spring leave more than air will shift, lukewarm water and a little mild detergent finish the job; keep rinsing until nothing colours the water. Drying is done by patience alone — no hairdryer, no radiator, no naked flame, since heat is the one thing this polyester will not tolerate. It goes back dry and untreated.
