Sprint Filter PM01S air filter

The facts.

DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Stelvio left production in 2016, and anyone still riding one knows what follows: a parts catalogue that stopped growing years ago and has been shrinking quietly ever since. That is the frame for choosing an air filter for this bike. A washable panel is not mainly a performance decision here — it is a decision to stop depending on a supply chain for one more item, because the element already in the airbox is the one that goes back in.

Key Features

  • Dry polyester medium that is serviced rather than consumed
  • Filtering area roughly twice that of other performance elements
  • Threads from ø 22 microns, woven to a calibrated opening
  • Direct fit in the untouched airbox, with no fuelling work of any kind
  • Compressed air is the whole of the routine service
  • Two years of warranty from purchase, on a design life measured against the motorcycle

Three catalogue entries, one motorcycle

Sprint Filter carries the Stelvio in three separate rows — 2008 to 2009, 2009 to 2010, and this 8V from 2011 to 2016 — because the listing follows model years rather than names. It is worth knowing when ordering: the year of the machine identifies the row, and the row hands over the reference. Both the standard bike and the NTX, with its bars, lights and larger tank, sit inside this one, since none of that equipment reaches the induction side. Whichever of the three rows a machine falls into, the panel behind it is the same one: the split exists because the listing tracks model years, not because the airbox ever changed.

Availability after the model ends

The element stays in production for an unglamorous reason: it is not a Stelvio part. PM01S also serves the whole Griso line, both V85 models, the California 1400 range and Aprilia's RSV4 and Tuono families — twenty-seven machines, several of them still being built. A component shared that widely does not follow one model out of the catalogue. It will not make this bike quicker either; what it removes is a reorder, and on a discontinued machine that is worth more than a claim.

Care and cleaning

Air line at the clean face, working outwards — dust leaves by the route it took coming in. Water is optional and occasional: lukewarm, a mild detergent, rinsed until it runs clear, then dried in moving air with no heat and no flame, and never refitted while damp. Nothing is re-oiled afterwards. The maintenance sheet is filed under the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

Listed for the Moto Guzzi Stelvio 8V STD and 8V NTX, 2011 to 2016. Twenty-seven machines from both marques share the panel — see the Fitment tab.
