A quarter-litre twin is engineered without slack. There is no spare displacement anywhere in the design, which means every part of the intake path was sized close to what the engine genuinely needs rather than generously above it. That is the honest starting point for choosing an air filter for a Ninja 250. What the Sprint Filter P08 PM164S offers is narrower and more useful: an intake restriction that starts low and, because the element is washed rather than replaced, stays low between services instead of creeping upwards unnoticed.
Key Features
- Woven polyester with threads from ø 22 microns and an aperture that is calibrated, not left to the randomness of pressed pulp
- Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters, so the same air crosses a less crowded path
- Dry from the first fitting to the last — never oiled, so nothing can travel downstream to a sensor or a throttle body
- Cleaned with compressed air and washed when a season has earned it; reused rather than replaced
- Sits in the standard airbox in the original position: no modification, no remap, no change to homologation
- Two-year warranty from the date of purchase
A percentage means more when the total is small
Airflow lost to a loading filter is roughly proportional, and proportion is exactly the problem on a small engine. A litre bike absorbs a few percent of restriction somewhere in its enormous reserve and the rider never learns about it. A 250 has no such reserve to spend. The same few percent turn up in the places this motorcycle is actually judged: how willingly it pulls the last part of an overtake, whether a hill needs one downshift or two, how it answers a small throttle opening in traffic. None of that is peak power. All of it is what the bike feels like to ride.
Serviced back, not replaced forward
A paper element is at its best on the day it is fitted and slightly worse every day afterwards. A woven polyester element breaks that pattern. It is blown through with compressed air, washed when a hard season has earned it, and refitted the same afternoon at the restriction it had when new. Sprint Filter builds the P08 to last the life of the motorcycle, so on a bike often kept for many years by more than one owner, this is a part that stops appearing on the shopping list.
Care and cleaning
Routine service is compressed air, blown from the clean side outwards. A harder spell earns more: lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, then left to dry fully in air; drying it with heat or a flame is what finishes the medium, so neither is ever used. It goes back in dry and it goes back in unoiled, because there is no oiling step in this element's life. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Kawasaki Ninja 250, 2018 to 2026. The same PM164S element serves eleven machines built around this airbox; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
