⟲ 360° — drag meThe facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two measurements are quoted against this element and they describe different things. The medium filters at 80 microns: that is the size of particle it is rated to stop. The threads it is woven from start at a diameter of 22 microns: that is how thick the material itself is. Quoting the second as though it were the first is the commonest mistake made about the P08, and it makes the fabric sound roughly four times finer than it is. The PM200S for the Svartpilen 200 is honest about both.
Key Features
- Rated filtration of 80 microns — the figure that describes what passes and what does not
- Woven from polyester threads starting at a diameter of 22 microns, a measure of the yarn
- Flow rated at 5,050 litres through each square metre of weave every second
- Around double the area of other performance elements, folded into the standard housing
- No oil at any point in its life, so nothing can migrate onto an intake sensor
- Washed and refitted rather than replaced, with two years of warranty from purchase
Why the distinction is not pedantry
Shop by numbers alone and the finer figure always looks like the better one. A 22-micron filter would indeed hold back far more than an 80-micron one. It would also flow far less, because in filtration those two always move against each other. Sprint Filter's own range shows the shape of it: the same box takes a P14 nonwoven rated at 14 microns which passes 1,800 litres per square metre each second, and a T12 at 7 microns which passes 560. Finer is not better. Finer is a different bargain, and 80 microns is where road riding usually wants to sit.
What that means for this machine
The Svartpilen 200 is a small single used mostly in traffic and on ordinary roads, with the occasional dirt lane to a viewpoint. That is precisely the duty the 80-micron weave was specified for, which is why it is the medium the bike is delivered against and why the others are listed as alternatives. If your riding really is dust-heavy for weeks on end, the finer P14 is catalogued for this airbox and asks a little less than this element does. If it is not, the trade it demands is real and buys you nothing. And none of the three makes the motorcycle faster; they differ only in what they keep out and what they let through.
Care and cleaning
Air first: nozzle on the clean face, moving steadily, dirt leaving outwards. When air alone stops helping, use water — warm, with a mild detergent, rinsed through properly — and then let the panel dry by itself in moving air. Nothing hot goes near it: no gun, no radiator, no flame. The illustrated procedure is among the files in the Downloads tab. It goes back in dry and it goes back in bare, with no oil of any description.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Husqvarna Svartpilen 200, 2022 to 2026. The panel matches the series airbox exactly and is shared across fourteen machines in the KTM and Husqvarna singles range; each is listed with its production years in the Fitment tab.
