The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Thirty litres of fuel, a nineteen-inch front wheel and 1,262 cc of Testastretta: the 1260 Enduro is a very large motorcycle designed to be a very long way from anywhere. Two of its defining numbers work against each other at the airbox. A big twin pulls a great deal of air, and a dusty road loads a filter quickly, so this machine combines high flow with fast accumulation more than anything else on the list. PM127S is the standard weave for it, and the catalogue also offers a much finer alternative worth understanding before you choose.
Key Features
- Dry polyester, so nothing has to be carried, applied or dried in the field
- Filtering area close to double that of other performance elements
- Rated at 80 microns with 5,050 l/m²/sec of flow — the open end of the range
- Replaces the factory panel inside the standard box; no modification, no remap
- Blown clean at the end of a stage and refitted straight away
- Two years of warranty from the date of purchase
High flow and fast loading at once
Restriction across a panel depends on the volume being drawn through it, and 1,262 cc draws plenty. Put that engine behind a truck on a gravel track and the two effects compound: a lot of air, arriving dirty, through cloth that is accumulating faster than it would anywhere else. Extra area is the direct answer to that combination, because it keeps the element working at a smaller fraction of its capacity throughout the day rather than only at the start of it.
When the finer weave is the right call
Sprint Filter also lists a 7-micron nonwoven for this bike, rated at 560 l/m²/sec. That is a large gain in retention bought with a large reduction in flow, and it is a trade rather than a ranking: neither weave is better, they are made for different air. Deep dust and desert work is where the fine one earns it; mixed touring with occasional gravel is where this one does. Nothing about either makes the bike stronger, and the choice should be made on the ground you ride, not on the specification you would like to own.
Care and cleaning
After a dusty stage, air is enough: apply it to the clean side and work outward until the cloth releases nothing more. Back home, wash it in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water is clear and dry it fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame, both of which finish the element permanently. It goes back dry, with nothing to reapply. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
