When to replace it
Cheek pads are compressed every time you put the helmet on and soaked in sweat on every warm ride. Over a season the foam gives way, and a helmet that once pressed gently on the cheeks starts to move when you turn your head. That movement is the signal. Fresh pads bring back the hold the helmet had when new.

How it goes on
Cheek pads are usually held by press studs or clips to the shell liner. Pull the old pad out from the bottom edge, match the new one to the same position and press it in until every fastener has engaged. Put the helmet on and check that both sides sit evenly.
