DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins part number 06411-07 is a shock absorber spring rated at 46 N/mm, 255 mm long with a 63.5 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.
Key Features
- 145 mm of usable stroke
- Öhlins part number 06411-07
- Powder-coated yellow
- Tapered-wound, constant rate
- Measured spring rate 46 N/mm
- Free length 255 mm
- Inner diameter 63.5 mm
Why the Rate Holds
Öhlins publishes recommended sag figures for its springs, so the setup has a reference rather than a feel. Öhlins sets a baseline for each part number on the machine it was developed on, so it works before anything is adjusted. Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain.
The Numbers That Matter
At 255 mm free length and 63.5 mm inner diameter, this spring is dimensionally interchangeable with anything of the same size — the rate is what makes it a different part.
What This Rate Does
This is where most riders of average weight land once static sag has been set to specification. From here it is easy to move one step in either direction once you have ridden it. A middle rate balances support against compliance, which is why Öhlins uses it as the baseline. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.
How a Rear Spring Works
Preload adjusts sag within a rate; it does not change the rate, and no amount of it will rescue a spring that is wrong. Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged. Because the linkage is progressive on most modern machines, a small change in rate moves the sag more than riders expect.
Applications
Rather than a model list, use the measurements: a fork that accepts this diameter and length is a candidate, and the rate follows from rider weight. This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do. Selection is by measurement. If the diameter and free length match your fork, the remaining question is the rate.
What Fitting Involves
Check the free length against the old springs before fitting — a sagged original often measures short. Öhlins states the oil and the air-gap for this application — both are part of the setting, not a detail. Fork oil should be replaced at the same time — it is already out of the leg.
Road Approval
Road approval: not applicable to the spring on its own. Öhlins issues approvals against complete suspension units, not individual springs.
Fitting and Setup Service
Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
