DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 06773-05 is a shock absorber spring rated at 35 N/mm, 370 mm long with a 70 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Inner diameter 70 mm
  • Öhlins part number 06773-05
  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • Free length 370 mm
  • 222 mm of usable stroke
  • Measured spring rate 35 N/mm

Why the Rate Holds

Rates are offered in defined steps, so a change can be made in one direction at a time. Öhlins machines its own critical components instead of buying them in, and the tolerances are where the money goes. The finish is applied after setting, which means the coating does not affect the rate.

Dimensions

Öhlins holds the free length at 370 mm and the inner diameter at 70 mm across this rate range, so moving up or down a rate changes nothing about the installation.

Choosing 35 N/mm

This is the end of the range where small-bump compliance matters more than resistance to diving. A soft rate favours grip and comfort over support: the fork moves early, which keeps the tyre loaded on a poor surface. Comfort and grip come from the spring moving early; this is the end of the range where that happens. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

What the Rear Spring Decides

Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged. Rear spring rates run in the tens or hundreds of N/mm because the spring sits at the short end of that lever, not at the wheel. Progressive springs change rate through the stroke, which suits machines with little travel and a lot of load.

Applications

A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table. A spring is one of the few suspension parts that is genuinely interchangeable: same bore, same free length, and it goes in. Where Öhlins lists this size against a particular unit, the listing is a starting point rather than a boundary.

What Fitting Involves

Torque the fork caps to the manufacturer's figure; the springs change nothing about the assembly torque. Note the original oil level before draining — it is a useful reference even when Öhlins specifies its own. The job needs no special tools beyond a fork spring compressor and a measuring rod for the oil level.

Road Approval

Road approval: a spring is a like-for-like replacement of a wear part and carries no separate type approval. Where Öhlins states an approval for a particular motorcycle, it is named under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so the installation does not have to be your problem: we fit and set up Öhlins components in our own workshop. Ask us when you order and we will include the work.
