DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 60360-05 is a shock absorber spring rated at 18-20 N/mm, 200 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Measured spring rate 18-20 N/mm (progressive)
  • Öhlins part number 60360-05
  • Free length 200 mm
  • Progressively wound
  • Inner diameter 46 mm

Manufacture and Tolerance

Materials read unremarkably on paper — aluminium, steel, nitrogen — and the difference lies in how precisely they are made. Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips. Service parts stay available for years after a part number leaves the current price list.

Size and Rate

Free length 200 mm, inner diameter 46 mm, rate 18-20 N/mm — those three figures define the part completely.

What the Rear Spring Decides

A shock absorber spring carries the whole rear of the machine through a linkage that multiplies its rate several times over — which is why the number on the spring looks so much larger than a fork rate. Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged. Rear spring rate sets ride height and static sag, and those two decide the chassis attitude before any damping click matters.

Applications

Sag figures, not feel, decide whether a rate is right. Öhlins publishes the targets for its own units. There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits. Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it.

Installation

Both legs are done together, and both take the same rate. Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do. Fork oil should be replaced at the same time — it is already out of the leg.

Road Approval

Road approval: no separate certificate. The spring changes the rate, not the construction of the fork, and is treated as a service part.

Fitting and Setup Service

Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
