Öhlins part number 60360-04 is a shock absorber spring rated at 16-26 N/mm, 200 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Inner diameter 46 mm
  • Measured spring rate 16-26 N/mm (progressive)
  • Öhlins part number 60360-04
  • 123 mm of usable stroke
  • Free length 200 mm
  • Progressively wound
  • Powder-coated yellow

How Öhlins Makes Them

Each spring is set before it is measured, so it will not settle and lose rate in service. Production is Öhlins' own in Sweden, and the tolerance on the rate is what separates these from a generic replacement. Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships.

Dimensions

At 200 mm free length and 46 mm inner diameter, this spring is dimensionally interchangeable with anything of the same size — the rate is what makes it a different part.

How a Rear Spring Works

Adding a pillion or luggage changes the rear load enough that the standard rate stops working properly. Rear spring rates run in the tens or hundreds of N/mm because the spring sits at the short end of that lever, not at the wheel. A rear spring is the cheapest part of the suspension and the one that decides the most.

Applications

Nothing about the installation changes across a rate range: the mounting, the length and the bore stay the same. Sag figures, not feel, decide whether a rate is right. Öhlins publishes the targets for its own units. The safest way to choose is by static sag: set the target figure, and the rate follows from whether you can reach it with preload.

What Fitting Involves

Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies. Note the original oil level before draining — it is a useful reference even when Öhlins specifies its own. A spring that is the correct length still needs the preload spacer checked, since installed length is what sets sag.

Road Approval

Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

This is not a part to rush. Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised service centre, and we are an authorised Öhlins service centre — fitting, servicing and setup all happen here. Get in touch if you would like the work done with the order.
