DescriptionThe whole story▼
Seal head 16/46/24.5, Öhlins part number 05122-01. An oil seal that has hardened lets the shaft pass oil past it, and the damping fades long before the leak becomes visible.
Key Features
- Thickness 24.5 mm
- Inner Diameter 16 mm
- Original Öhlins service part
- Outer Diameter 46 mm
- Öhlins part number 05122-01
What It Is
Öhlins gives it as 16 mm, 46 mm, 24.5 mm; nothing about that is approximate. A seal that has taken a set no longer springs back and starts to weep. Seals harden with heat and age even when the machine has not been ridden much. Nitrile, Viton and PTFE behave differently with temperature, and Öhlins picks per position.
Original Öhlins Part
Öhlins publishes dimensions for its service parts so a workshop can verify before it fits. An original part keeps the unit within its published specification; a near-equivalent quietly moves it. Öhlins parts are unit-specific: a close dimension is not a substitute. Service parts are ordered per piece unless stated otherwise.
How to Be Sure It Fits
Öhlins identifies this position by the number 05122-01 in the exploded view for the unit it belongs to. inner diameter 16 mm, outer diameter 46 mm, thickness 24.5 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. A weeping damper almost always starts here. Seals are the part of a damper that decides whether it holds its gas charge and its oil, and they are the usual reason a unit ends up on the bench.
Fitting and Setup Service
We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so you do not have to source the tools and the nitrogen: send us the damper and we rebuild it with the correct parts and the correct setting.
