Guide sleeve 23.3/38/170, Öhlins part number 21916-05. Öhlins uses low-friction coated bushings so the unit breaks away smoothly rather than sticking.
Key Features
- Öhlins part number 21916-05
- Original Öhlins service part
- Outer Diameter 38 mm
- Length 170 mm
- Inner Diameter 23.3 mm
Where It Sits
Öhlins gives it as 23.3 mm, 38 mm, 170 mm; nothing about that is approximate. Bushings carry the side load in a damper or fork and keep the moving parts concentric. A worn guide shows up as a knock over sharp edges. Worn bushings show up as a knock over sharp edges before they show up as a leak.
Why the Original
Rebuilding to specification only works if the parts are to specification — that starts here. Öhlins publishes dimensions for its service parts so a workshop can verify before it fits. Service parts are ordered per piece unless stated otherwise. We can supply the whole position from the drawing rather than the single piece if that is easier.
Getting the Number Right
The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 21916-05 in this case. inner diameter 23.3 mm, outer diameter 38 mm, length 170 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. Sleeves position parts axially and often set the preload on a stack. Worn bushings show up as a knock over sharp edges before they show up as a leak.
Fitting and Setup Service
Fitting service parts means opening a pressurised unit. As an authorised Öhlins service centre we do that here, with the right tools and a dyno check afterwards — just ask.
