DescriptionThe whole story▼
Adjustment housing M53x1.25/22, Öhlins part number 21653-37. Preload adjusters carry the full spring force and are built accordingly.
Key Features
- Original Öhlins service part
- Öhlins part number 21653-37
- Thread M53x1.25
- Dimension A 1.25 mm
- Dimension B 22 mm
Function
21653-37 is the 1.25 mm, 22 mm version — Öhlins lists each size separately. Hydraulic preload adjusters are sealed units and are replaced rather than opened. Its bores hold seals, so a scored housing leaks as surely as a shaft seal. Needle and seat together meter the bleed flow; damage to either changes the whole adjustment range.
Why the Original
The part is identical to what Öhlins fits in production — same supplier, same specification. Buying the individual part rather than a complete assembly is what makes servicing an Öhlins unit worthwhile. Ask us before ordering if you are unsure: a wrong part in a pressurised unit is an expensive lesson. Where a number has been superseded, Öhlins states the replacement — we pass that on.
Identifying the Right Part
Part number 21653-37 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. Öhlins states dimension a 1.25 mm, dimension b 22 mm for this number, and those figures are the deciding ones. An adjuster that turns without resistance has lost its detent; the setting is then guesswork. Hydraulic preload adjusters are sealed and pressurised; they are replaced as a unit.
Fitting and Setup Service
Öhlins recommends that its units are serviced by an authorised centre. We are one: rebuild, revalve and setup all happen in our own workshop.
