DescriptionThe whole story▼
The MV Agusta Brutale 1090, built from 2012 to 2017, wears its engine and its naked tail on display, and even a small part like the number plate mount is visible every time the bike is parked up. Melotti Racing's PT.MV.4981 is cut to the Brutale's own exclusive lines rather than fitted as a generic black box bolted under the tail: an arm, a mounting plate and two connecting hinges, all machined from solid aluminium. It is aimed squarely at owners who want the plate mount to look as deliberate as the rest of the Brutale 1090 instead of like an obvious aftermarket afterthought.
Key Features
- Number plate holder built for the MV Agusta Brutale 1090, 2012 to 2017
- Arm, mounting plate and two hinges machined from Anticorodal aluminium billet
- Hinge design allows angle adjustment by loosening a single screw
- Semicircular cable channel with cable-tie slots along the arm
- Reflector and indicator brackets in satin stainless steel included
- Black anodised finish applied after machining
- Resin-coated anti-vibration pad fitted under the plate mount
- Choose the plate format for your registration country; Germany uses format A
Construction and Material Quality
Melotti machines the PT.MV.4981 from a block of Anticorodal aluminium, taking the arm, the mounting plate and the two hinges out of solid stock rather than casting or stamping them. The arm keeps enough material through its load path to stay rigid under the plate while the rest is opened up to save weight, which matters on a naked bike where the tail has no bodywork to hide a heavy bracket behind. Melotti puts the parts through a number of machining stages aimed at a clean, even finish, and anodises them black once that work is done. The separate plate mount is also aluminium and carries a resin-coated pad against the plate itself, so it does not buzz loose on the vibration a naked twin-cylinder engine sends through the subframe.
A Part That Stays on Show
Without bodywork around it, a naked bike's tail is on permanent display, and the number plate mount is one of the few parts back there that every owner looks at every day. On the Brutale 1090, the standard holder is a simple plastic bracket, functional but not something that matches the rest of the machine's finish. The PT.MV.4981 is built to sit there instead without drawing attention for the wrong reasons: machined edges rather than moulded ones, a hinge mechanism that lets the plate sit level once it is set, and a cable channel that keeps the wiring for an indicator or a plate light tidy instead of taped on the outside. It is a part bought as much for how the Brutale 1090 looks parked up as for what it does while riding.
Fitment and Compatibility
Melotti lists the PT.MV.4981 for the MV Agusta Brutale 1090 built from 2012 to 2017, and our listing covers exactly that range of years; it replaces the standard plate holder directly, with nothing else on the bike needing to change. The plate format option sets the geometry of the separate mounting bracket to match the country of registration: A for Italy, Germany and Greece, B for France, Belgium and Switzerland, C for Spain, D for the USA and UK, and E for Australia, so choose the one for your own country, which for Germany is format A. The reflector and indicator brackets included are sized for this Brutale 1090 generation.
Road Approval
A number plate holder is tied directly to a motorcycle's road registration, so we state this plainly. We hold no German ABE and no Teilegutachten for the PT.MV.4981, and Melotti has supplied no EC type approval for it either. Fitting it to a Brutale 1090 that is used on public roads in Germany is only permitted once the change has been inspected and entered in the vehicle papers; before that step, treat it as suited to off-road and closed-circuit use. At an organised event, the technical rules set by that event's organiser apply above anything written here.
Scope of Delivery
Melotti currently reports the PT.MV.4981 as out of stock on their side, so a confirmed delivery time depends on the manufacturer; we check and confirm the lead time with you before the order is shipped. The kit itself supplies the machined arm, the mounting plate, the two connecting hinges, the mounting hardware and the reflector and indicator brackets in satin stainless steel, for the plate format chosen. The number plate light is not included and needs to be bought separately.
